About Cat Care 101: Tips for Adopters
Look, the non-negotiable rule with us is the indoor-only policy. We don't say this to be difficult, but because we have seen too many accidents happen in Bangalore apartments. Cat-proofing your windows and balconies with heavy-duty nets isn't just a suggestion, it is the only way to make sure your new friend stays safe while they watch the world go by.
Your Home, Their Sanctuary
Adopting a rescue cat from BCS means understanding the reality of urban living. Our fosters live in homes, not cages, so our cats are used to the sounds of a household. However, that doesn't mean they don't have specific needs.
The 'No-Go' Zones
- Window & Balcony Safety: This is the most common hurdle for new adopters. If you live in an apartment, netting is mandatory. Cats are natural hunters, and even the most well-behaved cat will jump if they see a bird. Nets prevent falls and keep them safe from high-rise living.
- Strictly Indoors: Our cats are indoor-only. Bangalore streets are dangerous due to traffic, stray dog packs, and disease. A happy cat is an indoor cat.
Feeding & Diet
- No Veg Diets: Cats are obligate carnivores. They need animal protein to thrive. We will guide you on appropriate wet and dry food brands that suit a typical Bangalore apartment lifestyle.
Kittens vs. Adults
- Kitten Energy: If you are looking at kittens, remember they are bundles of chaotic energy. They need scratching posts, interactive play, and a lot of patience. If you work long hours, we strongly suggest adopting a bonded pair. They keep each other entertained and handle the separation anxiety that single kittens often struggle with.
- Adult Calm: Looking for a chill companion? Consider an adult cat. Their personalities are set, they are generally litter-trained, and they are much less likely to shred your curtains.
We provide medical records for every cat, and our team is always just a message away if you need advice on settling them in. Adopting isn't just about taking a cat home; it is about making that home a space where they can finally relax.
