Signature Design Materials for Your Outdoor Oasis
It is the textures, lighting, and greenery that turn a plain balcony into a proper getaway. Here are the materials and design tricks we use to make that happen.
We love mixing materials to create visual interest. Here, you can see the beautiful contrast between the intricate, Moroccan-style patterned tiles and the warm, rustic texture of the hardwood decking we used in our Pioneer Araya project.
This image shows a close-up of an artificial green wall illuminated by string lights. Next to it, we used interlocking wood deck tiles to create a durable and stylish floor for the bar area, demonstrating how different textures can define a space.
This custom-designed wooden bar cabinet provides stylish outdoor storage. The slatted design is modern and functional, and it serves as a beautiful base for displaying plants and decor against the urban backdrop.
A key element for the Pioneer Araya terrace was this stunning, hand-carved stone water feature. Even before installation, its classic design promised to add a sense of tranquility and old-world charm to the modern high-rise setting.
About Signature Materials & Features
Choosing the right materials is the difference between a balcony that just sits there and one that invites you out. We love mixing high-contrast patterned tiles with warm, wood-finish WPC deck tiles. It defines the space without needing structural walls, making it perfect for apartments where you do not want to break the floor.
Outdoor spaces in Indian cities often face the same constraints: limited space, harsh sunlight, and a need for privacy. Our approach centres on layering textures to solve these issues.
Hard Surfaces
We often use WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) or Acacia deck tiles. They are weather-resistant and, more importantly, they are interlocking. This means no glue or cement is needed. If you are renting or just want to avoid permanent changes, this is the way to go. For a bolder look, we integrate patterned ceramic tiles, which instantly change the character of a dull concrete floor.
The Green Layer
Plants do more than look good. They provide privacy. We use tall plants like Areca palms or Bamboo in galvanised or fiberglass planters to create soft, green boundaries. For walls, we rely on vertical garden panels or hanging planters to add layers without taking up precious floor space.
Lighting
A space is not usable after sunset without the right lighting. We avoid harsh overhead lights. Instead, we use warm string lights, recessed floor uplighters for plants, and weather-proof lanterns. These elements, combined with small details like stone water features or custom metal gazebos, create that elusive breakaway feeling. Whether you are at Pioneer Araya or any high-rise apartment, our goal is to use these specific elements to turn your balcony into your favorite room in the house.
