A successful surgery requires teamwork between the patient and the surgeon. Here is how you can prepare your body for a safe procedure and ensure a smooth, comfortable recovery.

Preparing for plastic surgery involves more than just showing up on the day. This video gives you some short, important tips, including consulting a qualified surgeon, adopting a healthy diet, and managing your weight.

This series of images provides key care tips before your surgery. The first and most important step is a thorough consultation to prepare for a safe and smooth experience.

A crucial pre-surgery rule: never self-medicate. Always consult with me before taking any medicines, supplements, or herbs to avoid unnecessary risks and complications.

What you eat matters. I advise my patients to follow a nutritious, high-protein diet before surgery to strengthen the immune system and prepare the body for a faster recovery.

Staying hydrated is simple but vital. Drinking plenty of water supports your body's natural healing processes and keeps your skin healthy, which is important for recovery.

Avoid processed and junk foods before your surgery. These can increase inflammation in the body and slow down the healing process. A clean diet is best.

It is critical to stop smoking and consuming alcohol at least two weeks before your surgery. Both can severely impair healing and increase the risk of complications.

After your surgery, managing swelling is key to a comfortable recovery. Here are some effective tips, such as using cold compresses and gentle movement, to help reduce inflammation.

About Your Surgical Journey: Preparation & Recovery

My philosophy is that your surgery actually begins weeks before you enter the operation theatre. During your initial consultation, we must discuss everything from your full medical history to any vitamins, supplements, or herbal teas you are currently taking. It is critical that you are completely transparent about these, as they can interfere with anesthesia and clotting, and my priority is your safety above all else.

Preparing for Surgery

The most important part of any procedure is the planning phase. When you come to see me at AKS Aesthetics or Yatharth Hospital, we don't just talk about the result—we talk about the process.

  • Review Your Medications: Many patients don't realize that simple aspirin or vitamin E can increase bleeding risk. Stop these at least two weeks before your date. Always consult with me before stopping or starting any new pills.
  • Lifestyle Adjustments: Smoking and alcohol consumption must stop entirely at least two weeks prior. Nicotine restricts blood flow, which is the enemy of healing. If you are struggling with this, be honest so we can plan accordingly.
  • Nutrition: Start eating a protein-rich, clean diet well before your surgery date. Your body needs fuel to repair tissues. I advise my patients to avoid processed, heavy-sodium junk food, as it only increases inflammation and swelling.

The Recovery Phase

Recovery is not passive; it requires active management from your side.

  • Managing Swelling: It is normal to feel swollen or uncomfortable, especially in the first few days. Using a cold compress helps, but do not apply ice directly to the skin.
  • Keep Moving: While rest is essential, avoid complete bed rest. Gentle, light movement around your room helps blood circulation, which prevents clots and speeds up your body's natural healing process.
  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water. It sounds simple, but proper hydration is one of the most effective ways to help your body process anesthesia and maintain skin health during the healing window.

If you have specific concerns about your upcoming procedure, whether it is a tummy tuck or a reconstruction, bring your questions to our consultation. We will create a roadmap that is realistic for your body and your lifestyle.
