Ghazals, Classical, and Devotional Singing
This is where my musical heart lies. From complex classical bandishes to soulful ghazals and traditional bhajans, this collection represents the foundation of my singing. It is where I find my center and refine my craft.
Another moment with my tanpura, finding my center before a practice session. The drone of the tanpura helps me tune my voice and my soul.
Singing a traditional bandish. This is one of my favorite pieces to practice, as it helps me work on my vocal agility and classical technique.
With a very tired voice, I present my favorite song, "Sapno Se Bhare Naina," sung by the god, Shankar Mahadevan sir. Please forgive any mistakes.
I've wanted to try this piece, "Sakal Ban" from Heeramandi, for a very long time. It's a beautiful traditional composition with a rich history.
A humble effort at singing the masterpiece "Ram Ka Gun Gaan Kariye," in anticipation of the Ram Mandir inauguration. Jai Shree Ram.
Let's all appreciate how beautifully my baba plays the harmonium. Here we are jamming to a classic ghazal, "Salona Sa Sajan."
Live and raw jamming sessions at home, featuring my chaotic but music-loving family in the background. This is a cover of Hariharan sir's ghazal, "Kaash Aisa Hota."
A little late, but here's a Navratri special for you all. This is a cover of a Gujarati folk song to celebrate the festival.
Just for you, Lata tai. This is a humble effort at singing one of her classic songs. I'm still learning it, but I wanted to share my tribute.
A Ganesh Chaturthi special. Singing the powerful "Gananayakaya" shloka to welcome Ganpati Bappa.
About Ghazals, Classical & Devotional
Mastering a ghazal or classical bandish is about more than just hitting the right notes. It is about understanding the swara and the bhaav behind every word. Whether I am sitting with my tanpura to find my pitch or jamming with my baba on the harmonium, this space is where I practice the discipline needed to bring out the raw emotion in every melody.
Finding the Emotion in Every Note
My journey into music started with these foundations. While I love the energy of Bollywood covers and commercial gigs, there is a different kind of challenge in singing a ghazal or a devotional shloka. These pieces require a level of vocal agility and emotional depth that pushes me to grow as an artist every single day.
How I Approach These Genres
- Classical Training: You will see me practicing traditional bandishes and using my tanpura to keep my pitch accurate. Classical music is the discipline that keeps my voice versatile for other genres.
- Ghazals: Singing pieces like Hariharan ji’s 'Kaash' or classic ghazals requires a delicate touch. It is about the storytelling in the lyrics, not just the melody. I spend hours working on my pronunciation and breath control to do justice to the poets.
- Devotional & Spiritual: Whether it is welcoming Ganpati Bappa with a powerful shloka or singing a bhajan, my goal is to create a serene atmosphere. I have rendered pieces like 'Ram Ka Gun Gaan Kariye' with a lot of respect for the original legends.

Akanksha B.
I am Akanksha, and my life is pretty much a Bollywood track on loop. While I love high-energy commercial gigs, these classical and devotional pieces are where I really get to slow down and pour my soul into the music. It is raw, honest, and the part of my work that keeps me most grounded.
