Maternity Photoshoot Posing Tips & Behind-the-Scenes
Ever wonder how to get those dreamy, candid maternity shots? It’s all about the right light and keeping things real. Here is a peek into how I make sessions feel like a breeze.
This video gives you a peek into how a final shot comes to life. You can see the difference between a behind-the-scenes moment and the professionally edited photograph. My process involves finding the best natural light and guiding you into poses that feel authentic and look beautiful.
About Behind the Scenes & Posing Tips
I am a huge fan of the split-shift approach—shooting part of your session at dawn and part at dusk. Pregnancy can be physically draining, and splitting your shoot ensures you stay fresh, comfortable, and happy, which always shows in the final images.
How We Keep It Real
When you are working with me, we aren't doing any stiff studio setups. I focus strictly on natural light and outdoor environments because that is where the magic happens. Whether we are at a place like Sunder Nursery or Lodhi Garden, I want you to feel like you are just taking a walk with your partner, not standing in front of a camera for hours.
The 30-32 Week Sweet Spot
I always tell my clients to aim for that 30-32 week window. Your bump is clearly visible, but you are usually not dealing with the heavy fatigue of the final weeks. It is the perfect time to capture those glowing moments before things get too hectic.
Posing vs. Directing
If you are nervous about how to stand or what to do with your hands, don't be. I don't believe in forcing poses. I provide gentle direction—like how to rest your hands under the bump or how to interact with your partner—and then I just let the moment happen. If you want to laugh, dance, or just lean on your partner, we do that. The goal is to capture the joy of this chapter, not perfection.
Tips for a Comfy Shoot
- Wardrobe: Wear flowy, comfortable clothes that let you move. You want to feel like yourself, not a mannequin.
- Stay Hydrated: I encourage plenty of snacks and water throughout our 3-4 hour window.
- Include Loved Ones: Partners and siblings are always welcome. It makes the photos feel much more like your real life at home.
