Artistic Bharatanatyam Portraits and Concept Shoots
I see the stage as one place, but the world as another. These portraits explore the quiet, still side of Bharatanatyam—captured in ancient temples and nature’s embrace.

This video captures the essence of devotion and beauty, set against the timeless architecture of a temple. It was a beautiful experience connecting with the story of Andal's love for the Lord.
From a vintage-inspired photoshoot, these portraits aim to capture the feeling of an old-world painting. The mood, makeup, and setting all came together to create a truly memorable artistic experience.

About this collection
When I plan these portrait sessions, I focus on the 'Abhinaya' (expression) just as much as I would for a live stage show. If you’re planning a shoot, I always recommend picking locations like quiet temple steps or heritage sites early in the morning—not just for the lighting, but for that genuine, timeless atmosphere that fits the classical aesthetic perfectly.
Photography is where I get to freeze the fleeting moments of a dance. While a live performance is a conversation with the audience, a portrait session is a conversation with the moment itself.
Why I Approach Portraits This Way
I treat every photo shoot as a collaboration. Whether we are working on a vintage-inspired look that feels like a Ravi Varma painting or a modern take on traditional temple architecture, my goal is to bring a sense of 'Rasa' (essence/emotion) to the frame. I am very particular about the details—the alignment of the hand gestures (Mudras), the sway of the temple jewellery, and the authenticity of the drape.
My Process for Shoots
- Concept & Mood: I love working with brands and photographers who have a vision. If you have a theme in mind, I can help match the Abhinaya and costume style to fit that vibe.
- Locations: I prefer settings that complement the classical nature of Bharatanatyam. Think ancient stone pillars, quiet temple courtyards, or open, green spaces that allow the colors of the silk to stand out.
- Authenticity: I believe in bringing my own dance costumes and accessories. I find that when I am in my own authentic 'Kacheri' (concert) attire, I move differently, and that energy shows in the photographs.
I’ve collaborated with many creative teams, and I’m always open to ideas that push the boundaries of how we see classical Indian dance. If you are a photographer or a brand looking to capture the grace of Indian tradition, let’s talk about creating something that feels less like a staged photo and more like a captured piece of art.
