Herping Adventures: Discover Reptiles & Amphibians in Delhi NCR
Think our city is just concrete? Join our field walks to uncover the hidden Aravalli nightlife. From spotting elusive Leopard Geckos to understanding the vital role of snakes in our local ecosystem, these sessions reveal the wild neighbors you never knew existed right here in Delhi NCR.
A non-venomous Glossy-bellied Racer, a sleek and fast resident of Delhi NCR. Encounters like this remind us of the important role snakes play in our ecosystem.
This is a Russell's Kukri, a non-venomous snake we came across on a night trail. They are common neighbors to humans in the Millennium City.
A Common Sand Boa, photographed during one of our photowalks. For many participants, this was their first time exploring this field of wildlife photography.
The distinctively shaped head of a Saw-scaled Viper, one of the venomous snakes we encounter during our specialized herping expeditions.
An Indian Rock Python peers out from its rocky den. These large, non-venomous snakes are powerful constrictors found in the Aravallis.
A Barred Wolf Snake coiled in the dirt. We found this beautiful specimen during a recent herping exploration in Delhi NCR.
A close-up of a Saw-scaled Viper, encountered on a recent night expedition. Safety and respect are paramount when documenting venomous species.
This was my first-ever encounter with a Cat Snake. Its large eyes are an adaptation for its nocturnal lifestyle, hunting in the trees of the Aravalli hills.
An Indian Rock Python basking near its shed skin. Shedding is a vulnerable time for reptiles, and it was a privilege to observe this.
A Red Sand Boa crossing a road. We stopped traffic to ensure it had safe passage, a small act of coexistence we encourage.
About Herping Adventures: Reptiles & Amphibians
When you join our herping walks, you are not just a spectator. We teach you how to use high-power field torches to scan for eye-shine and provide professional snake hooks to ensure we observe species like Saw-scaled Vipers or Kukris safely. Whether you are aiming for that perfect macro shot of a lizard or just want to learn how to identify local snakes, we focus on ethical, non-intrusive documentation in the rocky outcrops of Gurgaon and Faridabad.
The Urban Wild Paradox
People often see the Aravallis as empty, dusty hills, but the reality is a thriving, secret ecosystem. Our herping expeditions are designed to flip that perspective. We walk through micro-habitats that many hikers pass by, slowing down to focus on what happens in the dirt, on the rocks, and under the logs.
What We Document
We don't chase animals for a quick shot. Our approach is about observation. We actively search for and document diverse species, including:
- Snakes: Identifying non-venomous residents like the Glossy-bellied Racer, Russell's Kukri, and the Common Sand Boa, while respecting the space of venomous ones like the Saw-scaled Viper.
- Geckos & Lizards: Spotting the beautiful Leopard Gecko and Fan-throated Lizards in their rocky domains.
- Amphibians: Tracking frogs and toads in monsoon-affected areas.
Your Role in Conservation
Every walk is a lesson in coexistence. We talk about why these animals matter for rodent control and the balance of our local environment. We address the tough realities of habitat loss and the risks snakes face on our roads. By photographing these animals and sharing your images, you contribute to a better understanding of what actually lives here, which is the first step toward protecting these spaces. Whether you bring a professional DSLR or just your phone, you will leave with a new way of looking at the ground beneath your feet.
