Bird Photography in Natural Habitats

I document birdlife in Delhi NCR with a focus on natural, unposed behavior. My process relies on patience and high-resolution optics to capture wild birds in their actual environment, free from staging or baiting.

A Great Barbet perched on a thick, gnarled tree branch. The vibrant green and blue of its plumage stand out against the soft, out-of-focus green foliage of the forest behind it.

A Greater Yellownape Woodpecker inspects a cluster of bracket fungi on a fallen log. The composition highlights the interaction between the bird and its environment, with the bright green of the woodpecker contrasting with the dark red of the fungi.

A Striated Laughingthrush is perched on a textured, weathered branch. The warm, golden background complements the bird's brown plumage, creating a harmonious and peaceful scene.

A small Common Tailorbird clings to a diagonal branch. The simple composition against a clean green background emphasizes the bird's delicate form and posture.

A Blue-throated Barbet sits on a branch amidst green leaves. This wider shot shows the bird in its typical arboreal habitat, with its bright colors providing a splash of vibrancy.

A Red-billed Leiothrix perches on a thin branch, looking curiously towards the viewer. The beautiful bokeh of blue and green in the background highlights the bird's colorful plumage.

A female Gray-winged Blackbird is perched atop a wooden post. The simple, rustic setting and the soft green background create a classic and serene wildlife portrait.

A male Plum-headed Parakeet, seen in full, balances on a thin, thorny branch while eating. The shot captures its long blue tail and the graceful curve of its body against a uniform green background.

A White-throated Fantail rests on a thorny branch. The warm, autumnal colors of the background complement the bird's subtle grey and brown tones.

A Rusty-cheeked Scimitar Babbler is perched on a mossy rock in the soft morning light. The composition captures the bird in a quiet moment within its forest floor habitat.

About Birds in Their Environment

My approach is entirely non-intrusive. By using a 500mm lens from a distance, I ensure that the birds behave exactly as they would if I were not there—foraging, preening, or watching their surroundings. You get an honest, high-resolution portrait of local wildlife, captured without the interference of flash or baiting.

Technical Consistency

Every image you see here was captured using a Canon R5 paired with an RF 100-500mm lens. This gear selection is deliberate. It provides the reach needed to remain invisible to the subject while delivering 45MP RAW files that maintain sharp detail even when cropped. I process these files specifically to retain EXIF metadata and natural color accuracy, ensuring the final output is as close to the reality of the scene as possible.

The Ethics of Environment

Wildlife photography in an urban landscape like Delhi NCR requires discipline. I do not use bait, feeders, or flash, as these change the bird's natural posture and interaction with its habitat. When you look at these photos, you are seeing a bird in its actual daily routine—whether perched on a gnarled branch in a local park or investigating a fallen log.

Usage and Licensing

These images are available for editorial, web, and personal display. If you are looking for specific imagery for a publication or a home project, note that I deliver high-resolution JPEGs via a private cloud link. If you need a physical copy, I also handle the printing process using 10-12 pigment inks on archival cotton rag paper to ensure the bird's natural colors—like the vibrant blues of a Verditer Flycatcher or the greens of a Barbet—remain stable for years.

I’m Vikas. I spend my mornings in Delhi’s quiet corners with my camera, waiting for the right moment. I don't stage anything—these are just real birds living their lives.
