We provide a permanent, safe home for 1,800+ dogs who have nowhere else to go. See how our residents live, heal, and find companionship in this seven-acre space near Bangalore.

Our founder, Rakesh Shukla, explains how dogs are surrendered to VOSD and what their life is like at the sanctuary. We are a unique facility in India, providing lifelong care for dogs that have nowhere else to go.

A young visitor shares a quiet moment with one of our residents during an Open Farm Day. These interactions teach compassion and create unforgettable bonds.

Who's happier, the dogs or our visitor Ritika? It's hard to tell. The love and affection are mutual here at the sanctuary.

Aaniya gets a happy kiss from Rahul, one of our resident dogs. Moments like these are what VOSD is all about: creating a space for love and connection.

The VOSD team takes a moment to relax with some of our furry residents. We are a family here, human and canine alike.

Our visitor Vaib is caught between love and possession, getting kisses from two dogs at once. There is never a shortage of affection at VOSD.

Arundathi is grounded, and the dogs are grateful for the moment. Our residents love digging cool pits to relax in on warm days.

Visitor Nandita met a stage-five clinger, and it was clearly love at first sight. Our dogs are not shy about showing their affection to kind visitors.

The humans are clearly outnumbered here, and no one is complaining. An Open Farm Day is a joyful whirlwind of wagging tails and happy greetings.

Sniff checks complete. A new visitor, Sumanta, gets the official welcome from our curious and friendly residents.

About Life at VOSD: A Glimpse into Their Forever Home

When you visit our seven-acre sanctuary during an Open Farm Day, you are not just walking through a shelter. You are seeing the daily reality of 1,800 dogs who have finally found a place where they are safe from the streets. You will see our medical recovery zones and meet the residents who rely entirely on our community to keep their specialized care, physiotherapy, and nutrition consistent every single day.

Our sanctuary is not a typical shelter where dogs wait for adoption. For the vast majority of our 1,800 residents, this is their final, forever home. Many of these dogs have survived severe trauma, acid attacks, or permanent injuries that make them unadoptable by traditional standards. We provide them with something more important than a new home: we provide lifelong dignity.

The Reality of Sanctuary Life

Daily operations require massive logistical effort. We cook three tons of food every day, ensuring that every dog, from the energetic pups to our geriatric residents on special soft-food diets, receives proper nutrition. Our on-site hospital is a lifeline, handling over 100 inpatients daily and providing the specialized medical attention, physiotherapy, and pain management these survivors need to live without suffering.

Why We Host Open Farm Days

We open our gates to select, passionate dog lovers because we believe in transparency and shared purpose. These visits are not about tourism. They are an opportunity for changemakers to see the scale of our work, understand the cost of providing lifelong care, and witness the profound transformation a dog undergoes when they realize they are no longer in danger. Seeing a paralyzed dog receive care or watching a formerly terrified rescue initiate a game of play is the most powerful evidence of why this work matters.

Supporting Our Mission

Because we receive no government funding, our ability to keep these gates open relies entirely on the support of our community. Whether it is through sponsoring a daily meal, covering medical supplies for a month, or contributing to our long-term care fund, your support directly impacts the quality of life for 1,800+ souls.
