Documentary Filmmaking & Social Impact Storytelling
I partner with non-profits and purpose-driven brands to capture stories that need to be heard. From community projects in New Delhi to sensitive on-ground reporting, I focus on the human reality, not just the footage.
This documentary-style brand film for the non-profit Gawain NPO was one of the most meaningful projects I've worked on. I aimed to tell the raw, honest story of their work in preventing assault and promoting women's safety in the slums of New Delhi.
About Documentary & Impact Storytelling
When I film in sensitive environments like community shelters or slums, I don't use heavy rigs or bright lights that intimidate people. My approach is to become a fly on the wall, using smaller, silent equipment that lets subjects speak their truth without feeling like they are on a stage.
Documentary filmmaking is not about setting up the perfect shot; it is about building the trust required to capture the real one. When I work with non-profits, the goal is always to represent the cause with dignity and accuracy. Whether I am documenting women's safety initiatives or filming educational outreach in urban slums, my focus remains on the narrative arc of the people involved.
My Documentary Process
- Low-Impact Setup: In social impact videography, discretion is vital. I minimize the crew size to avoid disrupting the environment, using handheld gimbals Sony Alpha A7SIII setups that are compact and quiet.
- Storyboarding for Reality: While I plan for key interview moments, I leave room for the unexpected. True documentary work requires reacting to what happens in front of the lens rather than forcing a script.
- Collaborative Crew: Even for small, purpose-driven projects, I pull in experienced assistants who understand that the subject’s comfort comes first. We work with wireless lapel microphones to keep audio clean, even in chaotic outdoor settings.
If you are an NGO or a social enterprise looking for documentary videography in Delhi, I want to hear about your mission. I am particularly interested in projects that address social issues, as I believe cinema is one of our strongest tools for building empathy. My standard approach for these projects involves pre-production interviews to align on the core message, followed by on-site shooting that respects the reality of the people we are filming.
