Experience the mist-covered biodiversity hotspots of the Western Ghats. Join me for hands-on macro photography and wildlife trails where we focus on patience, fieldcraft, and ethical observation.

My first encounter with the elusive Hump Nosed Pit Viper in the Western Ghats. After a sudden shout from my guide, I switched to a macro lens and captured this intense moment as the viper tasted the air with its forked tongue.

High up in the canopy, the vibrant Indian Giant Squirrel is a colorful masterpiece of nature. Capturing this shy creature requires patience and a bit of luck.

The treeshrew is a tiny but mighty inhabitant of the forest floor. This video captures its quick, agile movements as it navigates its world with grace.

The Indian Paradise Flycatcher, with its stunning long tail, dances through the forest. This video captures the elegance of this bird, a true jewel of the Western Ghats.

A portrait of the White-Bellied Blue Flycatcher against a dark forest background. The deep blue of its feathers creates a stunning contrast, a moment of pure serenity.

The Verditer Flycatcher adds a splash of brilliant azure to the forest. This shot captures its vivid color against the dark, moody backdrop of the Western Ghats.

The Blue-capped Rock Thrush, with its stunning combination of blue and orange, is a true visual treat. I was captivated by its vibrant hues against the soft green light of the forest.

The male white-rumped shama unfurls its tail like a delicate flower. This shot captures the beauty and motion of its display, a true masterpiece of nature.

A macro view of the Hump Nosed Pit Viper, showing the intricate texture of its scales. Getting this close to one of the world's deadliest creatures is a surreal and humbling experience.

About Wonders of the Western Ghats

You are not just here to click photos. You are here to learn the art of 'waiting' for that one frame. Whether it is stalking a pit viper in the undergrowth or setting up the perfect angle for a flycatcher, we focus on the patience and fieldcraft that makes the shot. If you want to move beyond Auto mode and truly understand how to capture nature's drama, this is where we start.

Beyond the Lens

These expeditions are for those who want to slow down. The Western Ghats is a biodiversity hotspot where you cannot rush. When we trek through places like Amboli or Tamhini, we aren't just looking for subjects. We are reading the forest floor, understanding animal behavior, and learning to respect the habitat.

What We Cover

  • Macro Photography: This is the heart of our herping trips. You will learn to use flash diffusers and 1:1 magnification techniques. We don't just shoot; we learn how to handle gear safely while photographing sensitive subjects like Pit Vipers or Tree Frogs.
  • Birding & Wildlife: From the vibrant White-Bellied Blue Flycatcher to the elusive Indian Giant Squirrel, we work on capturing movement in low-light forest conditions. This involves understanding ISO, shutter speed, and back-button focus techniques specifically for canopy or undergrowth shots.
  • Fieldcraft: The most important part of my workshops. I teach you how to move silently, stay camouflaged, and position yourself so you do not disturb the wildlife. We follow ethical standards, ensuring we are guests in their home.

Why Join?

If you have a kit lens or a high-end setup, it does not matter. The goal is to train your eyes. We spend evenings reviewing shots, discussing compositions, and sharing the stories behind the frames. It is all about building your unique style, whether you are just starting or looking to refine your macro and wildlife work.
