Modernising Heirloom Necklaces and Chokers

Don't let your family heirlooms stay hidden in a locker. I help you transform traditional pendants, outdated chains, and gold coins into stylish, wearable chokers and necklaces that fit your modern wardrobe.

A perfect example of modernizing an heirloom. We converted a classic diamond necklace into this chic green hasli, using the original diamond flowers and adding a central solitaire for a royal finish.

A studio shot of the finished refurbished hasli. The vibrant green stones contrast beautifully with the sparkling diamonds, creating a statement piece that is both modern and timeless.

This transformation shows how a single traditional kairi pendant can become the centerpiece of a stunning choker, enhanced with carved emeralds, peacock motifs, and elegant pearl strings.

A client brought me old gold chains and earrings. To give them a new life, we combined them with newly crafted South Indian style brooches and emerald beads to create this heavy, layered necklace.

We took a client's traditional mangalsutra pendant and motifs and created this beautiful gold choker. By adding a new border, elephant motifs, and strings of pearls and emeralds, we gave it a completely new identity.

Sometimes a simple update is all that's needed. We gave this gold hasli a festive makeover by adding a large solitaire polki, a line of diamonds, and delicate rice pearls for a fresh, celebratory look.

A lesson in minimalist transformation. For this set, we simply changed the meena (enamel) color and added emeralds with moti piroi. Even small changes can make a piece feel beautifully new.

This client's gold set was no longer being worn, so we deconstructed it. We enhanced the pendant with emeralds, used pieces of the original gold to create a white moti mala, and made a matching bracelet and earrings.

A client wanted a unique and colorful piece on a limited budget. We used her two small gold pieces, added new bird motifs with meenakari, and created a vibrant mala with ruby and emerald beads.

From a single polki pendant to a show-stopping necklace. We created this piece on a budget by adding multi-layered emerald bead strings, proving that even small heirlooms can be turned into grand statements.

About Modernising Heirlooms: Necklaces & Chokers

You don't need to melt your gold to change its look. Often, we simply deconstruct rigid pendants or outdated chains and add fresh elements like carved emeralds, Basra pearls, or new meenakari work to create a flexible, comfortable choker that fits your current style.

It starts with a conversation. We look at what you have—that heavy, stiff set you haven't worn in years, or the gold coins (ginnis) tucked away for decades. My goal is to keep the original gold intact while updating the aesthetics to something you will actually reach for.

I frequently use artisanal techniques like moti piroi (stringing pearls) or introduce peacock and elephant motifs to build weight and drama without needing excessive amounts of new gold. If you have a traditional pendant, we can create a custom frame for it, converting it into a central piece for a multi-strand necklace or a broad, modern choker.

We work with 14k, 18k, and 22k gold. Whether it is a minimalist refresh—like changing the enamel colour or adding a few beads—or a complex structural redesign, we create a vision before we begin. You are not buying new jewellery; you are unlocking the potential of what you already own.
