Welcome to our home of art. From my mother to me, this 40-year tradition of painting is a spiritual practice we are honoured to share with you at our studio in Bangalore.

This is one of our proudest moments. My mother and I share the story of being commissioned to create a massive 4x6 feet Gajalakshmi painting for the Tirupati temple, a true blessing that we cherish to this day.

A little sneak peek into a day at our Tanjore Collective studio. From conducting online classes and packing material kits for students to finishing new paintings and caring for our plants, our studio is always buzzing with creative energy.

Welcome to our studio! I am so happy to give you a quick tour and show you some of the beautiful works created by us and our talented students. We have been teaching this art for over 35 years and love sharing it with everyone.

What a joy it is to be surrounded by such a talented and wonderful group of women. This is a picture from one of our workshops, and I am so proud of every single student and the beautiful art they have created.

I truly believe anyone can learn this art. You don’t need any prior experience, just a passion to learn. Here are some of our students in class, focused and enjoying the meditative process of creating their own Tanjore masterpieces.

I was so honored to be featured for International Artist Day. In this clip, I share my story of learning this art from my mother and how we use real gold and semi-precious stones to keep this beautiful 16th-century tradition alive.

A Tanjore painting can last for generations if cared for properly. Here, I share three simple and important tips on how to preserve your precious Tanjore and Mysore paintings so their beauty and shine never fade.

The foundation of our art lies in the ancient 'Shilpa Shastra,' the science of art and sculpture. I explain how these traditional scriptures guide the proportions and anatomy in the sketches we use, ensuring every deity is depicted with divine accuracy.

The Shanku (conch), Chakra (discus), and Namam are powerful symbols of Lord Vishnu. Each holds a deep spiritual meaning, representing the sound of the cosmos, the power to destroy evil, and a devotee's surrender to the Lord.

A glimpse into our happy place, the Tanjore Collective art studio in Bangalore. It has been a dream come true to create this space where we can share our passion for this traditional art with all of you.

About Our 40-Year Legacy & Studio Life

Stepping into our Basavanagudi studio is about more than purchasing art. It is where you find us embossing, gilding with 24K gold foil, and conducting classes where students discover the meditative flow of painting deities. Whether you come to us for a custom commission or to learn the craft yourself, you become a part of the long history we have dedicated to this sacred practice.

Our studio is built on a foundation of 40 years of family tradition, passed down through generations. We believe that Tanjore painting is not just a decorative craft, but a form of Sadhana (spiritual practice). Every piece we create follows the ancient Shilpa Shastra, which dictates the precise proportions and anatomy of the deities to ensure divine accuracy.

The Studio Experience

When you visit us, you are not just seeing finished paintings. You are stepping into our workspace. You will see us working with authentic materials: 24K gold foil, Kundan stones, and our own traditional Sudha (limestone and gum paste) for embossing. We do not use synthetic fillers or shortcuts. Whether we are planning a massive 6-foot Gajalakshmi for a temple or a miniature pendant for your home, the process is deliberate, slow, and respectful.

Learning the Craft

We open our doors to anyone who wants to learn. We have seen students from all walks of life—kids to grandparents—find peace and joy through this art. We provide everything you need in our kits, and we guide you through every stage, from sketching to the final finishing of the deity's eyes. It is our goal to ensure that this beautiful, 400-year-old tradition remains alive and accessible, not just in our studio, but in your home as well.
