Using wall ropes, or Yoga Kurunta, allows us to explore inversions and deep stretches with a sense of security and lightness. It is my favorite way to help you decompress the spine and open your body in completely new, supported ways.

Finding treatment, love, and care for the body through a supported headstand using the wall ropes. This is a healing and positive practice.

True happiness can be found in the quiet moments of surrender. Here, I am in a supported Halasana (plow pose) using the wall ropes for gentle traction.

Let's choose to be grateful right now. A student in a beautiful backbend, suspended by the wall ropes, opening her heart with abundance.

Life is fragile, love is the glue. A gentle, swinging forward fold using the ropes helps to release the spine and calm the mind.

Sometimes going upside down helps you rethink life from a different angle. A playful Sirsasana (headstand) variation using the wall ropes.

A creative variation for a supported shoulder stand using the wall ropes. This practice is fun and helps build confidence in inversions.

Sometimes it's a good idea to go upside down and clear your head. A student enjoying a supported headstand with the help of the ropes.

Using the yoga ropes to build upper body and core strength. This is a great way to add a fun challenge to your Monday motivation.

So excited with my new prop. These elasticated ropes add a new dimension to stretching, allowing for dynamic movement and deep release.

About Wall Rope Yoga (Kurunta): Deepen Your Stretch

If you have ever felt like your body holds you back from achieving a deeper pose, the Kurunta rope wall changes that feeling immediately. By using these wall-mounted ropes, I help you find traction and support that you just cannot get with mat work alone. Whether you are dealing with a stiff back or want to safely try your first inversion, these ropes act like an extension of your own arms, letting you surrender into the stretch without the fear of falling.

Finding Space with Kurunta

In my Hauz Khas studio, the Kurunta rope wall is more than just a set of tools; it is a way to create space where there was once tension. The word 'Kurunta' translates to 'puppet', which describes exactly how these ropes work. They hold the weight of your body, allowing you to hang, stretch, and invert with complete safety.

Why the Ropes Work

Many students come to me worried about stiffness or lack of flexibility. The ropes solve this by providing:

  • Spinal Traction: Gravity often compresses our spine throughout the day. Using the ropes allows us to gently hang and create space between the vertebrae, which is incredible for back relief.
  • Inversion Safety: Going upside down can be intimidating. The ropes offer a secure way to practice headstands (Sirsasana) and other inversions, ensuring you are supported and aligned before you rely on your own strength.
  • Deep Release: By using the ropes, you can hold passive stretches for longer periods. This helps you release deep-seated tension in the hips, shoulders, and lower back, leading to that feeling of 'bliss' my students often talk about.

My Approach in Hauz Khas

When you come to class, we start by setting up the prop stations. We use the heavy-duty wall-mounted ropes alongside high-density bolsters and bricks to create a custom setup for your body. Whether you are recovering from a slip disc or just want to challenge your core, these tools allow me to adapt the sequence to you. You do not need to be a flexible yogi to start; you just need to be willing to breathe, let go, and let the ropes do the work.
