Advanced Techniques: Portraits & Intricate Figures
Ready to move past basic patterns? Whether you want to draw hyper-realistic bridal portraits or tell a story with traditional jharokhas, I am here to help you nail those advanced techniques.
The learning never stops for an artist. Here I am trying a mehndi portrait of Deepika Padukone. In my advanced classes, we work on capturing likeness and expression to create stunning portrait art.
This is a startup bridal design, showing how to build a traditional jharokha scene with swans. We focus on creating soft, detailed, and elegant bridal elements that tell a story.
A beautiful and intricate bridal design in the making. This video shows the process of layering details, from the architectural elements to the delicate peacock and finger patterns. This is what professional work looks like.
This is the outline for a classic bridal startup design featuring a jharokha and peacocks. We begin by sketching the main structure before filling in the intricate details.
Here, the basic structure of the jharokha is filled in with bold strokes. This technique, called negative space filling, makes the central elements pop. You'll learn this in my basic to bridal course.
Adding more details like the base and the swastika symbols brings the design to life. Each element has a meaning, and I teach the cultural significance behind them too.
The final filled-in bridal startup design. From a simple outline to this beautiful art piece, my classes guide you through every step with easy tips and tricks.
From "mehndi wali" to "the art piece". This is the transformation that happens when you pour your heart into your work. This video shows the full, detailed jharokha design coming together.
About Advanced Techniques: Portraits & Intricate Figures
Learning to draw figures and portraits on skin feels like magic, but it is really just patience and understanding the right flow. In my sessions, we stop treating hands like a flat surface and start seeing them as a canvas for storytelling. Whether you are struggling with shading a bride's face or getting those peacock feathers to look crisp, I will show you how to break it down.
Advanced mehndi is where the art truly hits different. It is not just about filling space anymore; it is about composition, anatomy, and control. In this module, we move away from standard motifs to focus on the details that make clients say 'wow'.
Why focus on Portraits & Figures?
Clients want their life stories on their hands. Whether it is a bride and groom portrait, a varmala scene, or a detailed jharokha, these elements are what turn a design into a memory.
What we cover in my Andheri studio:
- Anatomy & Shading: We learn to draw faces that look like faces, not just sketches. I teach you how to use 3D shading techniques to create depth and expression.
- Storytelling: How to place figures so they look natural on the hand, rather than floating in space.
- The 'Clean Line' Secret: Advanced work requires precision. We focus on pressure control—learning when to press hard for bold outlines and when to let the henna glide for fine hair and jewelry details.
- Troubleshooting: Even pros make mistakes. I show you how to fix a portrait or adjust a figure mid-design without ruining the entire flow.
How to start
If you have already got your basics down and want to take your portfolio to the next level, this is for you. My classes are hands-on, with plenty of personal feedback because that is the only way to get better. If you are not in Mumbai, we can do this via my online mentorship sessions too.
