Simple Vastu Tips for a Prosperous Diwali & Dhanteras
Festivals are a time of high energy, and following Vastu can amplify the positivity in your home. Here are my practical tips for Diwali and Dhanteras, from what to buy for prosperity to how to decorate your entrance to welcome Goddess Lakshmi.
This is my Diwali Vastu tip for your main door. To welcome Goddess Lakshmi, decorate your entrance grandly with colorful torans, religious symbols like Swastik and Kalash, and beautiful rangolis.
During your Diwali safai (cleaning), don't forget to decorate your main door. I suggest using torans made of mango or Ashok leaves, drawing 'Shubh Labh', and making your entrance as welcoming as possible to invite positivity.
On the auspicious day of Dhanteras, what should you buy? I recommend buying anything made of silver, a Shri Yantra for your temple, brass vessels, and definitely a new broomstick to symbolize sweeping away poverty.
It is just as important to know what NOT to buy on Dhanteras. I advise against buying aluminum or steel vessels, any sharp items like knives or scissors, and vehicles on this particular day.
About this collection
A clean and bright main entrance is the most important step for welcoming Goddess Lakshmi, but it is not just about aesthetics. Small choices, like the specific type of toran you hang or the items you avoid buying on Dhanteras, influence the energy flow in your home throughout the year. Let us look at how to align your festival preparations with simple Vastu principles.
Your Entrance is the Energy Gateway
During Diwali, we all do deep cleaning or Diwali safai. While you are tidying up, pay special attention to the main door. It is the mouth of your home, and how you treat it determines whether positive energy enters or stays out. I suggest using torans made of natural materials like mango or Ashok leaves instead of plastic. If you use symbols, place a 'Shubh Labh' or a Swastik, but avoid putting pictures of Gods on the floor or rangoli where people might step on them.
Dhanteras Buying Guide
We often rush to buy metal on Dhanteras, but Vastu logic suggests being selective.
- What to buy: Silver, brass vessels, and a new broomstick are excellent. The broom is symbolic of sweeping away poverty and old, stagnant energy from your home.
- What to avoid: Stay away from steel and aluminum vessels, as their energy is considered cold and less auspicious for this day. Also, avoid buying sharp items like knives, scissors, or new vehicles on Dhanteras. These can introduce unnecessary friction or 'sharp' energy that you do not want in your space for the year ahead.
Simple Festival Remedies
- Diya placement: Lighting two diyas at the main entrance is a simple way to invoke auspiciousness.
- Keep it natural: Your festival decor should feel alive. Use fresh flowers and leaves. Artificial plastic decor often creates static energy, which defeats the purpose of the festive cleansing.
Following these steps does not require expensive changes or demolition. It is about intention and small, meaningful adjustments that help you welcome wealth and happiness into your living space.
