Smart Home Technical Guide for Architects & Designers
Practical technical specifications for your projects including curtain wiring, lighting protocols, and connectivity planning.
Why spend more on complex DALI systems? My smart drivers with Bluetooth mesh technology offer a more cost-efficient and flexible lighting solution, which can even be installed in retrofit projects without extra wiring.
When planning for automated curtains, the pelmet depth is crucial. As a general rule of thumb, I recommend a depth of 8-10 inches to accommodate the track and motor comfortably.
For motorized curtains, the wiring is straightforward. You need a 5-wire setup dropped at the corner of the pelmet. This ensures the motor has the power it needs to operate smoothly.
A stable smart home needs good Wi-Fi. I recommend planning for one access point per room with a wired backlink to avoid any dead spots and ensure all your devices stay connected reliably.
To make the most of voice control, it's a good idea to plan for plug points for your Alexa or Google Home devices in every room during the construction or renovation phase.
My system also supports RGB lighting control. This allows you to achieve a full spectrum of colors, which is perfect for creating dynamic party lighting or unique accent moods in any room.
About this collection
You do not need expensive DALI systems to achieve professional lighting control in your projects. Our Bluetooth mesh modules offer a cost-effective, retrofit-friendly alternative that keeps your site wiring clean and your budget intact, providing the same granular control without the need for complex, extra cabling.
Smart Lighting & Control
Moving away from traditional, wiring-heavy DALI systems is the easiest way to optimize your project budget. My BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) mesh modules allow you to control individual lighting points or create complex scenes without the typical installation headaches. This approach is equally effective for new builds and renovation projects where you want to avoid wall-breaking.
Motorized Curtain Planning
To ensure a seamless finish, plan your pelmet depth early. I recommend a depth of 8-10 inches. For the wiring, provide a 5-wire setup (Live, Neutral, Earthing, Forward, Backward) at the corner of the pelmet. This simple step ensures the motors have the necessary power to operate smoothly from day one.
Wi-Fi & Infrastructure
Automation is only as good as the connectivity behind it. To avoid dead zones in large homes, plan for one dedicated access point per room. Always utilize a wired backlink to ensure consistent signal strength for all smart devices. Additionally, remember to include dedicated plug points for voice assistants (Alexa or Google Home) in every room during the construction phase. This avoids the clutter of extension cords later on.
RGB & Dynamic Lighting
My modules support full spectrum RGB control. You can achieve dynamic party lighting or subtle accent moods using the same control hardware, making it a versatile choice for living rooms, entertainment areas, or bedrooms where the atmosphere needs to change instantly.
