We teach the art of scoring, starting with proper form and balance. Whether it is layups or jump shots, we focus on the fundamentals to help every child feel the joy of the basket.

Perfecting the jump shot requires focus on the fundamentals. Here, I am guiding two young players on their shooting form, from their stance to the follow-through, ensuring they build the right habits from day one.

Meet Arjun, an 8-year-old who is practicing his layups. Repetition is key to building confidence, and drills like this help players master the footwork and touch needed to score consistently near the basket.

A young player practices her layup form, running towards the basket and finishing with a clean shot. We encourage players to practice from both sides to become versatile and unpredictable scorers on the court.

Even at five years old, the passion for the game is clear. This young player is working on her dribbling and shooting, showing that with the right encouragement, age is no barrier to learning and having fun.

A missed shot is a learning opportunity. After a missed layup, I had a quick, encouraging chat with this young player to help him refocus and try again. This moment captures our coaching philosophy of mentorship and positive reinforcement.

At six years old, this young athlete is already learning how to pass and move into a shot. We focus on teaching the basic concepts of teamwork and creating scoring opportunities, even for our youngest beginners.

About Shooting & Scoring

A great shot starts long before the ball leaves your hand. In our sessions, I emphasize holding the follow-through and keeping your elbow in tight, because muscle memory is built through thousands of controlled repetitions, not by rushing for the hoop.

Building the Perfect Shot

Many parents ask me, how early should we focus on scoring? The answer is simple: as soon as they can hold a ball. In my sessions at Modern Convent, Abhinav Global, and MRV School, I break down the shooting motion into small, manageable pieces. We start with the stance, move to the grip, and finally, the release.

Why Technique Matters More Than Strength

Kids often try to heave the ball toward the hoop using their arms alone. That is a mistake. I teach them to use their legs to generate power. When a child learns to use their legs properly, the shot becomes smoother, and they stop relying on wild guesses. We use drills to lock in this footwork so that when they are tired or under pressure in a game, their body remembers what to do.

The Layup Process

Layups are the bread and butter of basketball. If you can master the layup, you can score consistently. We practice running towards the hoop, focusing on the timing of the jump and the soft touch against the backboard. I insist on practicing with both the left and right hand, because being a one-sided player limits your scoring options on the court.

Mentorship Through Mistakes

Missing a shot happens. Toh phir? (So what?) I tell my students that a miss is just data. We look at why it missed, adjust the elbow or the foot placement, and go again. Building this resilience is just as important as the mechanics of the shot itself. My goal is for your child to leave the court feeling like they have improved, regardless of how many baskets they made that day.
