Learn Easy Crochet Stitches and Techniques
I love to share the stitches I use every day. Here are my favorite techniques for making blankets, granny squares, and beautiful borders.
This is a beautiful crochet stitch I use for making blankets. The rainbow yarn looks so pretty with this design. You can tell me what colors you want for your blanket.
Here is another stitch that is great for making a thick and cozy blanket. I am using bright orange and green yarn to show the pattern clearly.
In this video, I show a very easy way to join granny squares together. This is how I make big things like blankets or bags from small squares.
About Learn With Me
Joining granny squares can be tricky, but I use a very easy, neat technique that works for blankets and bags alike. Everything you see here uses 100% cotton yarn, which I find best for beginners because it is soft and does not split while you learn. Take a look at the videos above to see how I connect my squares, and I hope this helps you get started on your own project.
My Crochet Learning Journey
I started my crochet journey at 61, and it quickly became my jaan (life). People often ask me why I use cotton yarn for everything. It is simple, really. Cotton is plastic-free, skin-friendly, and fully washable. When you are learning a new stitch, you want a material that holds its shape and feels good in your hands.
Simple Techniques for Beginners
- The Granny Square Join: You will see in my video how I use a simple stitching method to connect squares. You do not need a machine or anything complicated. All you need is a needle, a steady hand, and a little bit of patience.
- Blanket Stitches: I love using bright, happy colors for my blankets. Whether you are making a small lap throw or a larger piece, the stitch tension is everything. I always recommend practicing your tension on a small swatch before starting a big project.
- Border Work: A good border finishes your piece. I use decorative, scalloped edges to give my blankets a professional look without making the process too hard.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which yarn should I start with? I always tell my students to start with medium-weight 100% cotton yarn. It is easy to see your stitches and it washes very well.
Can I make these designs at home? Of course! That is why I share these videos. If you get stuck on a pattern or need help choosing colors, just send me a message. I am always happy to help a fellow crochet lover.
