Elegant Back-of-Hand Mehendi Designs
Your hands are the focal point of every photograph. I create back-of-hand designs that blend tradition with your personal style, ensuring your henna looks beautiful from every angle.
A beautiful example of a mixed-style design. One hand features a modern lotus mandala, while the other has a more traditional, dense pattern, showing how you can play with different looks.

This design for the back of the hand is all about elegance. A beautiful scalloped edge flows down from the wristband, with delicate floral patterns covering the hand and fingers.
A geometric design for the back of the hands, featuring a V-shape pattern filled with intricate star-like jaal work. This style is modern, chic, and very eye-catching.

This bold back-of-hand design features a large heart-shaped pattern filled with a diamond jaal. It's a strong and modern statement piece, perfect for an engagement or party.
A simple and elegant back-of-hand design featuring graceful peacock motifs. The minimal use of patterns on the fingers keeps the focus on the central design.
About this collection
Because your hands are constantly moving during rituals, the back-of-hand design receives the most attention in your wedding photos. I design these patterns to frame your jewellery, like engagement rings or bangles, making sure the henna adds to your look rather than overpowering it. Whether you prefer a clean mandala or an intricate mesh, the placement is always planned to be visible and elegant.
Back-of-hand mehendi is where I love to experiment with the balance between heavy, traditional patterns and modern negative space. While the palm design is essential for the ritual, the back of the hand is your style statement.
My Design Approach
I categorize these designs into three main styles based on what you need for your event:
- The Minimalist Mandala: Perfect for roka ceremonies or bridesmaids. A central floral or geometric motif on the back of the hand keeps things clean and chic.
- Traditional Jaal (Mesh): For a full bridal look, I use fine-line mesh work that mimics lace gloves. This creates a cohesive, dense appearance that looks stunning against bridal lehengas.
- Jewellery-Inspired: I often use scalloped borders, teardrop motifs, and bracelet-style patterns at the wrist to create the illusion of wearing hand jewellery, which pairs perfectly with your actual accessories.
Achieving the Perfect Stain
Since the back of your hands is exposed to more movement and elements than your palms, aftercare is crucial for that dark, rich color. After I apply the henna, I use a lemon-sugar sealant to lock in the moisture and ensure the essential oils penetrate deeply. I always guide my brides on how to keep the paste on for as long as possible before washing it off with plain water, avoiding soap for the first 24 hours to let the colour mature fully.
Why it Works
I believe the best designs are the ones that don't just look good, but feel like a natural part of you. If you have a specific pattern in mind, or want to match your mehendi to your outfit's embroidery, we can definitely incorporate those elements.
