Live Caricature Drawing: Watch the Process
Seeing a face come to life on paper is half the fun of hiring me. Here is how I turn a blank page into a funny cartoon in just a few minutes, right before your eyes.
A crowd always gathers to watch the drawing take shape. Here I am sketching a guest as his family looks on, showing how it's an interactive experience.
This video shows my process of drawing a guest in a beautiful saree. I focus on capturing key features and expressions to create a recognizable likeness.
Watch as I sketch this young boy. He's paying close attention as his face appears on the paper, line by line.
A quiet moment of concentration. This young boy is watching intently as I create his portrait right next to him.
Even while she's eating, I can capture a great likeness. This video shows me drawing a guest live at an outdoor carnival.
This guest was a bit shy, but her smile at the end was worth it. Here you can see the caricature of this traditionally dressed girl coming to life.
This boy couldn't hold back his laughter as he watched his own face being drawn in a funny style. It's all about having a good time.

I always try to engage with my subjects to capture their personality. Here's a look at me sketching a young woman at an event.

About Watch Me Draw: The Process
When I am at your event, I do not just sit and draw in silence. The easel setup is designed to be a mini-show; I keep the banter going while I sketch, which helps people relax and makes the finished caricature much more expressive. It takes me about 5 to 7 minutes per person for color sketches or even faster for black and white, so I keep the queue moving even if you have a big crowd.
People often ask me if the drawing process is boring to watch. Actually, it is the opposite. When I bring my wooden tripod easel to a wedding reception or a corporate event, it instantly becomes a hub of activity. Guests love seeing how I exaggerate features—a nose, a smile, or a pair of glasses—to create a funny, recognizable likeness.
Why a Live Sketch Show Works
I use bold black markers for that classic, sharp look, but I can also switch to soft pastels if you want color. Because I use A3 cartridge paper, the sketches are big enough to be seen from a distance, which draws people in. It is not just about the final portrait; it is about the 'arre wah!' moment when a guest sees their own face transformed into a cartoon character.
Technical Details for Your Venue
- Setup: I carry my own gear, including a battery-operated clip light, so even if your venue is dim or outdoors, I can keep drawing clearly.
- Pacing: For high-volume events, I stick to black and white markers to churn out 12 to 15 faces an hour. If you want a more detailed takeaway for VIP guests, I switch to color pastels, which takes about 7 minutes per sitting.
- Interaction: My goal is to make the subject laugh. That is why I talk, make jokes, and ask about their day while I sketch. The result is always better when the person is relaxed and smiling.
