When shooting jewellery, the makeup needs to bridge the gap between human skin and metal. I focus on creating a studio-ready base that balances natural dewiness with subtle matte finishes. This prevents the skin from looking oily under high-intensity strobe lighting while ensuring the jewellery remains the absolute focal point of the shot.
My Approach to Commercial Shoots
I understand that a campaign shoot is a team effort. My role is to act as a partner in the visual storytelling process, ensuring that the hair, makeup, and skin tone support the mood of the collection. Whether we are shooting a minimalist diamond campaign or a traditional heavy gold bridal look, the focus is always on creating a clean, high-definition finish that holds up even in close-up macro shots.
Why the Detail Matters
- Skin-to-Metal Harmony: I pay close attention to body polishing for neck, shoulders, and collarbones. High-end jewellery often draws focus to these areas, and pigmentation or tan lines can distract from the product. I use custom body foundations to ensure seamless consistency.
- Lighting Control: Studio lights can be unforgiving. I use specific humidity-resistant setting sprays and HD-ready products that don't flash back, keeping the model looking fresh for the duration of a 5 or 10-hour shift.
- Collaborative Workflow: I work closely with photographers to monitor skin shine and adjust the makeup look between set changes, from daytime fresh to evening cocktail glam.
