This is what my training is all about. It is a showcase of the discipline, power, and skill we build at Kim's Taekwondo Academy. This is the result of hard work and dedication.
Power Breaking: Gyeokpa
This is where you test your power. In gyeokpa, you will learn to focus your strength and technique to break real boards and tiles. It is a measure of your progress and a powerful confidence builder, practiced with both hand strikes and various kicks.
Strength and Agility Conditioning
Before you learn to fight, you must build the body of a fighter. I use tough, practical drills to build your strength, speed, and endurance. Expect to master agility ladders, cone drills, plyometrics, and intense bodyweight exercises.
Kicking and Striking Drills
This is the heart of Taekwondo technique. You will learn to execute a wide range of kicks and strikes with power and precision. We use kicking pads, shields, and training dummies to ensure you can apply your skills effectively.
Sparring Practice: Kyorugi
Here, you apply your skills. Kyorugi is controlled sparring where you learn to manage distance, timing, and strategy against a live partner. We always use full protective gear, including chest guards (hogu) and headgear, to ensure training is safe and effective.
Flexibility and Form
Power comes from a flexible body and disciplined mind. We dedicate significant time to stretching to achieve splits and backbends for higher, faster kicks. You will also master Poomsae, the traditional patterns that teach you the art and flow of Taekwondo.
Our Dojang: The Training Ground
This is where the transformation happens. My dojang is a traditional training hall equipped with matted floors, breaking stations, and conditioning equipment. It is a place of respect, hard work, and community, where students of all ages train together.
