The Art of Custom Hand Embroidery
Embroidery is where the personality of an outfit truly comes alive. From delicate zardozi to vibrant Banarasi weaves, these details turn simple fabric into a reflection of your unique style.
A close-up view of a custom floral embroidery motif. I used a combination of gold thread, multi-tonal sequins, and small pearls to create texture and shine. This level of detail is what makes a handcrafted garment so special.
This is an example of heavy neckline embroidery for a grand blouse. Created on orange silk, this design uses zardozi, sequins, and stone work to create a rich, traditional pattern perfect for a bridal or festive outfit.
I love working with classic Indian textiles. This is a close-up of a rich Banarasi brocade fabric, featuring intricate floral and paisley motifs woven with gold and red threads. This fabric is perfect for creating timeless lehengas and blouses.
About The Art of Embroidery
Whether you have a specific heirloom saree you want to pair with a new blouse or an idea for a fusion blazer, the placement of embroidery is crucial. I personally guide you on which motifs work best with your fabric—heavier zardozi for raw silk versus subtle, clean sequin work for organza—so the final piece feels balanced and looks intentional.
When we start a project, my main goal is to make sure the embroidery complements your vibe rather than overpowering it. I spend a lot of time working with fabrics like organza, Banarasi silk, and velvet because they hold structure beautifully.
My Approach to Embroidery
- Fabric & Motif Matching: If we are working with organza, I prefer lighter, floral machine work highlighted with hand-beading. For heavier, traditional looks on silk, we look at Zardosi, intricate threadwork, and stone embellishments.
- Texture Play: I love mixing elements. Using sequins alongside matte threadwork or adding small pearls to a heavy gold motif creates depth. It is not just about the shine; it is about how the fabric moves and feels when you wear it.
- Custom Process: Since I run my studio out of HSR Layout, I prefer a collaborative process. We chat about the occasion, your comfort level, and what makes you feel like yourself. We finalize the embroidery pattern together before a single stitch is made.
Everything is tailored to your measurements, including considerations for lining and comfort—especially for heavier pieces. If you have an idea in mind, or if you've seen a pattern you love but want it in different colors, reach out. We can adapt almost any traditional motif into a modern, wearable piece.
