Our first time experiencing heavy snow in Himachal. The dogs are wearing jackets and booties, essential gear for protecting them from the cold and rough terrain.

A glimpse of a day on our Bhutan road trip, where we encountered fresh snow at Thrumshing La Pass. The dogs loved exploring the new texture and smells.

On our way to Nathu La pass in Sikkim, we were greeted by our first snowfall of the trip. I'll guide you on the documentation needed to take your own car to such locations.

Hiking the famous Tiger Nest Trail in Paro, Bhutan. We hiked halfway to avoid the steep steps, ensuring the experience was enjoyable and safe for the dogs.

About this collection

Hiking isn't just about the leash. Whether it is snowy terrain or steep forest trails, your dog needs specific conditioning for the surface and temperature. I focus on gear habituation—getting your dog comfortable in protective booties and insulating jackets long before we hit the trailhead—so they can focus on the trail and not the discomfort on their paws.

Nature is unpredictable, and that is what makes it fun—but it is also why preparation is non-negotiable. When I take Vanilla and Coco on a hike, we are not just walking; we are navigating changing climates.

Preparing for the Terrain

  • Surface Conditioning: Before you tackle rocky paths or gravel, you must build paw resilience. We start with shorter walks to toughen pads and move to longer trails only when the dog's endurance matches the activity.
  • Gear Habituation: Dogs rarely like wearing clothes or boots at first. I teach you how to introduce booties, raincoats, and thermal gear so your dog ignores them and focuses on exploring.
  • Safety on the Trail: Steep inclines and forests have unique risks. I teach the 'long leash' technique, which gives your dog the sensation of freedom while keeping them safely connected to you. It is about control without compromising their fun.

Lessons from the Field

My trips to Nathu La and the Tiger Nest Trail in Bhutan taught me that confidence matters as much as fitness. If your dog is anxious, they cannot enjoy the view. We work on building that confidence slowly, ensuring they feel secure on unstable surfaces or in the sudden cold of high altitudes. We address recall commands under distraction so you can confidently navigate popular trails without the fear of your dog wandering off.

If you are ready to stop leaving your dog behind and want to start exploring the mountains together, let us talk about your first trail.
