Beauty from Within: Holistic Diet, Sleep & Skin Advice
Healthy skin starts long before you open a jar. This is my gyaan on how fixing your diet, sleep, and stress levels from within gives you the kind of lasting glow that skincare alone cannot achieve.
A common mistake I see: when I say "no sugar," that includes sugar replacements like stevia and jaggery. Anything that tastes sweet can spike your insulin, which is a trigger for acne and inflammation.
Simple lifestyle changes can make a huge difference for acne-prone skin. I discuss four key pillars: a clean scalp, clean eating, quality sleep, and managing happiness to reduce stress.
A repeat of my four lifestyle pillars for managing acne: keep your scalp clean, eat clean to support the gut-skin axis, prioritize sleep, and find ways to stay happy and calm.
Your skin is made of fats, proteins, and oils. A simple spoonful of ghee or coconut oil in the morning can be a superfood for your skin, providing the healthy fats it needs to look plump and youthful.
Fat has been unfairly villainized. For healthy skin and hair, good fats are paramount. They are essential for a strong skin barrier and for absorbing fat-soluble vitamins.
Why do I often recommend plant protein over animal protein? Animal protein can be more pro-inflammatory. However, even good protein in excess can be inflammatory, so portion control is key.
A simple snack like guava (peru) is great for the skin. It's rich in Vitamin C, an important antioxidant, and also high in fiber, which is essential for good gut health.
A typical Indian breakfast can be carb-heavy. I suggest a simple upgrade: add a source of protein like sprouts or moong dal to your poha or upma to balance blood sugar and stay full longer.
Summer is here, and so is the tan. I share my three-step approach: how to avoid tan with hydration and protection, how to care for it immediately, and long-term removal strategies.
Air pollution is at an all-time high and causes havoc on our skin. I discuss the importance of a good cleansing routine, external protection with moisturizers, and internal support with antioxidants.
About Beauty from Within: Diet, Stress & Sleep
When I ask you to cut sugar, I really mean all of it. Patients often swap refined sugar for stevia or jaggery, but for acne-prone skin, that still spikes your insulin, which is a major trigger for inflammation and collagen breakdown. Real change happens when you stop the spike entirely—no sugar, no replacements, just whole foods that keep your skin barrier intact.
The skin is often just a mirror of your gut and hormones. When we talk about beauty from within, it is not a catchphrase, it is biological. If you are struggling with recurring acne, pigmentation, or premature aging, look at your lifestyle first. Your skin is built of fats, proteins, and oils. If you are on a restricted, fat-phobic diet, your skin barrier weakens, leading to dryness and listlessness. Simple additions like a spoonful of ghee or coconut oil can be a superfood for your skin.
We also need to discuss the invisible triggers. Air pollution, lack of sleep, and chronic stress all cause cortisol spikes, which lead to inflammation. When inflammation is high, your body produces cytokines—negative chemicals that drive aging and breakouts. To manage this, we do not need to chase trends; we need to reset your circadian rhythm. Wake up on time, prioritize sleep, and manage stress before it settles into your skin. Remember, if your gut is happy, your skin is happy.
