The Philosophy Behind Our Play-Based Learning
At Do Re Minis, we believe the best way for a child to learn is through music, messy play, and shared discovery. Here is why we do what we do.
I often get asked why I insist on using live music. In this video, I explain how it helps me control the energy of the room, develop listening skills in children, and support cognitive development in a way that pre-recorded music just can't.
The early years are the perfect time to expose your child to the world of performing arts. I design my classes to be an immersive experience in music, drama, and creative movement to build confidence and brain development that will last a lifetime.
Happy World Music Day. I feel so blessed to be able to share my love for music with the littlest people every single day. Holding my ukulele, "Red," and making music with children is my greatest joy.
About My Philosophy: The Magic Behind the Play
When I sit down with Red, my ukulele, it is never about performing a perfect song. It is about reading the room. If the energy is scattered, we slow the tempo down to a hum. If the kids need to burn off steam, we pick up the pace. This intentional control helps children learn to regulate their own energy, while you get to take a genuine breath knowing your child is in a space that respects their individual pace.
Why Play is Our Priority
In the early years, cognitive development is not about structured lessons or drills. It is about the neural pathways built through experiences that feel like pure joy. Whether we are knee-deep in taste-safe sensory bins or following the rhythm of a song, the goal is always to encourage curiosity, social confidence, and a love for learning.
Process Over Product
You will notice our art activities are messy, loud, and often tactile. We focus entirely on the process. It does not matter what the final creation looks like because the learning happens in the squishing, mixing, and exploring. By removing the pressure to produce a perfect result, children feel safe to take risks and experiment.
A Space for Parents
Parenting is a wild ride, and I see the effort you put into showing up for your little ones. These sessions are designed to be a bridge for you too. It is a place to connect with other parents, chat, and watch your child grow without the usual stresses of home.
Our Approach to Early Learning
- Live Music: Used to build rhythm, pitch, and listening skills. We use music to guide the room's energy.
- Sensory Play: Designed for fine motor skill development and tactile exploration using taste-safe materials.
- Inclusive Environment: Welcoming to all children, regardless of ability or neurodiversity, ensuring everyone finds their rhythm.
- Community: Building a tribe of parents who support each other through the early years.
