Learn Music Production and DJing with DJ NYK
Getting a track from an idea to a club-ready remix takes more than just software. Here is a look at the workflow I use in my Patparganj studio to blend Bollywood hits with electronic beats.
Here's a glimpse into my creative process, re-imagining the popular Coke Studio track 'Khalasi'. I'm building a deep bassline and programming a new beat to give the song a completely different, club-ready energy.
This is how I experiment with different genres. I took the iconic 'Pathaan' theme and gave it a Trap-style makeover, playing the melody on my Korg keyboard and building a heavy beat structure in my DAW.
In this session, I'm creating a Mid-Tempo vibe for 'Jhoome Jo Pathaan'. You can see me working out the chord progressions and programming the drum patterns, showing how a track is built layer by layer.
About In the Studio: The Production Process
When I sit down to remix a track like 'Khalasi' or 'Pathaan', I start by breaking down the original melody and re-mapping it to a specific groove, like Trap or Deep House. The goal is to make the bassline hit hard without drowning out the vocals, which requires precise EQ and layer management in Ableton Live. It's about finding that balance between the electronic pulse and the soul of the original song, rather than just layering sounds over a beat.
Behind the Track
Music production is a discipline of constant experimentation. In my studio, we don't just use presets. Whether I am taking a folk classic and adding a Deep Bassline or giving a Bollywood chart-topper a Trap makeover, the process starts with critical listening. I focus on understanding the core energy of the track before deciding how to manipulate it with my Korg keyboard or build the structure in my DAW.
My Production Workflow
- Concept & Arrangement: I map out the progression, identifying where to place drops and build-ups to maximize crowd reaction.
- Sound Design: Using a mix of VSTs and hardware synths, I craft unique textures that define the 'NYK Style.'
- Mixing & Mastering: This is where the magic happens. I use KRK monitors to ensure every element—from the high hats to the sub-bass—sits perfectly in the mix, ensuring club-ready clarity.
Hands-on Training in Delhi
I believe the best way to learn electronic music production is to do it. That is why I revamped my Patparganj studio to be a fully accessible space for my students. When you join the Ableton Music Production course, you are not just watching tutorials. You get access to the same workstation, hardware synths, and monitoring environment I use for my official releases.
We cover everything from digital distribution strategies for Spotify and JioSaavn to the technical side of spatial effects and compression. My goal is to equip you with the skills to take your sound from your bedroom to the festival stage, just like many of my former students have done.
