Specialized Cultural Workshops
Engage with traditional Indian arts through hands-on doll decoration and philosophical storytelling sessions at Dhaatu.
For Dussera, we offer a special "Pattada Bombe Alankara" workshop. Participants learn the art of dressing and decorating the traditional pair of dolls that are a centerpiece of the Navaratri celebrations.
We are proud to present our "Tattva Katha" Upanishadic series. These sessions, led by Vidyashankar Hoskere, explore the profound stories and philosophies of the Upanishads for learners aged 12 and above.
About this collection
These sessions move beyond surface-level crafts into the methodology of our heritage. Whether you are dressing a pair of Pattada Bombe dolls for Dasara or attending our Tattva Katha Upanishadic series, the focus is on understanding the 'why' behind the ritual. You aren't just making a decor piece or listening to a lecture; you are participating in practices that connect us to the wisdom of our epics.
Traditional Doll Decoration
The Pattada Bombe Alankara workshops are essentially a masterclass in iconography and ritual preparation. For Dasara, we provide the embellishments and guidance, but you bring the dolls (typically 8 to 10 inches). It is a meticulous process of dressing and adornment that prepares these figures to become the centerpieces of your festive display. Because this is a hands-on technical session, registration typically closes a week before the event to ensure we have enough materials for every participant.
The Tattva Katha Series
Led by Vidyashankar Hoskere, these sessions are a deep dive into the Upanishads. We move through these ancient texts not as a formal academic study, but as a narrative exploration. It is suited for learners aged 12 and above who want to engage with Indian philosophy in a way that feels relevant and grounded in real life. These take place at the Mandala Cultural Centre, providing a quiet space conducive to listening and discussion.
Practical Details
- Venue: Workshops are held primarily at our Mandala Cultural Centre on Kanakpura Road, near the Silk Institute Metro station.
- Materials: For our doll workshops, we provide the fabric, beads, stones, and guidance. We recommend coming prepared to spend the full day, as the process requires patience and attention to detail.
- Methodology: We balance instruction with traditional storytelling. We believe that when you understand the history of an art form, your connection to the object or the story you create becomes much stronger.
