Practical Interior Design Tips & Styling Advice
Good design is not just about how a room looks. It is about how it works, how you feel, and how you use it. Here are some of my go-to methods for changing up your space.
Paint is a powerful tool in interior design. This video explains different paint techniques I use to visually alter a room's proportions, such as painting an accent wall to enlarge the space or painting the ceiling a dark color to make it feel lower and cozier.
Bringing plants into the office is a great way to improve air quality and reduce stress. Here are five of my top recommendations for low-maintenance indoor plants that thrive in an office environment, including the spider plant, snake plant, and peace lily.
About Design Tips & Inspiration
Most people think interior design is just buying expensive furniture, but it is really about solving problems. If your cabin feels cramped, you do not need more storage. You need to use light paint on the ceiling to create height, or add a specific plant like a Snake Plant to clear the visual clutter and improve air quality. It is about making small, smart choices that change how you actually spend your day in that space.
When I work on a project in Gurgaon, I do not start with a catalog. I start by looking at what is bothering you. Is the office too dark? Is the room feeling crowded? My goal is to use design to remove those friction points.
Using Paint to Fix Proportions
Paint is the cheapest and fastest way to transform a room. I often use dark colors on ceilings to make a large hall feel cozy, or light, neutral tones on walls to make a small bedroom feel massive. It is not about painting everything white. It is about understanding how light interacts with your surfaces. If you have an office with low ceilings, painting the ceiling a lighter shade than the walls draws the eye upward, giving you that extra bit of breathing room.
Why Greenery Matters
I always recommend indoor plants, not just for looks, but for the air you breathe. In our dusty NCR weather, air quality inside is a big issue. Here is what I usually recommend:
- Snake Plants: Nearly impossible to kill and great for oxygen.
- Spider Plants: Perfect for shelves or small corners.
- Peace Lilies: These bloom beautifully and handle low light.
- ZZ Plants: Tough, drought-tolerant, and look premium.
- Areca Palms: The best for filling up an empty corner in an office cabin.
Whether you are planning a complete renovation or just want to refresh your workspace, the goal should always be functionality first. If a design element does not serve a purpose or solve a problem, it is just taking up space. Give me a call if you are stuck on a layout or just need a second opinion on what to do with that empty corner.
