Isn't it amazing how many shades you can create from just a few basic colors? A huge part of painting is learning how to mix your own palette. This image shows the earthy tones I mixed for the still life painting of the blue bottle and seashell.
Patience and a steady hand are your best friends when it comes to detail work. Here, I am using a very fine brush to carefully fill in a floral outline with green paint. It’s these small, focused moments that make the final piece so special.
About From Blank Canvas to Masterpiece
We work with simple, student grade acrylics because the art is in your patience, not in expensive tools. You start as a complete beginner and finish a 12x16 inch canvas in one three hour session.
The way I teach painting is based on finding your own rhythm. We spend time on color theory, learning how to mix a limited palette to create depth and highlights. It is a slow process of layering paint. You will learn to handle brushes, from flat to round, to create different textures and effects.
Every session is designed to make you feel comfortable even if you have never held a brush before. The goal is not perfection, but the joy of creating something with your own hands. You get to keep your 12x16 inch canvas as a memory of the day. All materials, including paints and protective aprons, are provided for the session. Just bring yourself and an open mind. Sessions are kept to small groups so I can guide each person individually. Chalo koina smit nu karan banie, which is my way of saying let us be the reason for someone's smile.
