Gentle Puppy Training & Behavior Guidance
Real-world puppy training isn't about teaching tricks. It's about raising a calm, confident dog who trusts you. Let's build a bond that lasts.
This is little Mili. Just four weeks ago, she would growl and bark if I came near her. After focusing on patience and giving her the space to build trust on her own terms, she now asks for cuddles and play. This is the power of reward-based training; we build confidence, not fear.
One of the most critical skills I teach is "drop," which helps prevent resource guarding. Here, I'm teaching Ragi, a six-month-old Indy pup, to happily release her toys. We make it a fun exchange game, so she learns that my hands give, not just take. This foundation is key to preventing possessive aggression later in life.
For a small puppy like Casper, the world outside can be overwhelming. Instead of forcing him, we use toys and praise to gently encourage him to take his first brave steps. My goal is to make the outdoors a place of curiosity, not fear, by introducing new sights and sounds at the puppy's pace.
This before-and-after shows the magic of proper crate training. What starts as a chaotic experience can become a peaceful retreat. I teach puppies like Terra to see their crate as a safe den, which is essential for potty training, managing separation, and teaching them to settle calmly.
For a Golden Retriever like Nilaa who loves to chase, playing fetch safely is crucial. I teach a "competition retrieve" where she waits for the toy to stop before running. This simple technique, practiced on safe surfaces, prevents injuries and channels her natural instincts into a fun, structured game.
Can a high-energy Siberian Husky learn to be calm? Absolutely. Here, I'm teaching three-month-old Rover how to settle down. Teaching a puppy to relax is just as important as teaching them to play. This skill is invaluable for situations like waiting at the vet or relaxing at home.
Nothing makes me happier than receiving messages like this. This Shih Tzu owner was feeling lost, but after just a few sessions in my online program, her puppy is already more calm and fulfilled. This is why I do what I do; to bring peace and joy to both puppies and their parents.
About this collection
It is about changing a dog’s emotional state rather than just managing their actions. When a puppy like Mili shifts from fearful barking to actively seeking cuddles in just four weeks, it proves that trust is the foundation of everything I do. I don't use fear to force obedience. I use time, patience, and clear communication to build a bond where your puppy feels safe enough to listen, rather than scared enough to comply.
My training philosophy is simple: we are raising living beings, not robots. Popular 'alpha' theories often cause unnecessary stress, so I choose a different path. My work is entirely based on positive reinforcement and reward-based training. Whether you are in Bangalore for in-person studio sessions or looking for an online puppy mentorship program, the goal remains the same: a calm, confident companion.
Why my approach is different
I focus on three core pillars that most trainers overlook:
- Neutrality: Instead of expecting your puppy to love every stranger or dog, I teach them to be neutral. This prevents reactivity and helps them navigate a busy city like Bangalore without getting over-aroused or fearful.
- Cooperative Care: Grooming and vet visits are often terrifying for dogs. I use gentle, reward-based exercises to teach your pup to willingly participate in their own care, whether it’s nail clipping or handling for a health check.
- Crate Training as a Den: I teach you to use the crate as a safe, cozy space—a den where your puppy can settle, rest, and regulate their own energy levels, which is crucial for potty training and managing separation.
Addressing real behaviors
I don't just teach 'sit' and 'stay'. I help you tackle the things that actually matter in your daily life. We work on preventing resource guarding through exchange games, mastering loose-leash walking, and redirecting biting onto appropriate toys. My online programs are designed to be practical. I review videos of your home setup and provide specific, actionable plans that fit your lifestyle and your puppy's temperament. We take it one step at a time, moving at your dog's pace to ensure we are building a genuine partnership.
Confident Dogs
I’m Nivedita. I founded Confident Dogs 12 years ago because my own rescue dog, Junior, taught me that fearful pups need empathy, not force. I am here to help you navigate the chaos and find the joy in training your new family member.
