Managing Tough Dog Behaviors and Reactivity
Tough behaviors don't fix themselves. Whether it’s door-dashing, reactivity, or noise sensitivity, I help you stop the guessing game and start real, consistent training.
Muzzle training is a vital skill, and it's not just for "aggressive" dogs. A muzzle keeps a dog safe from eating things off the street, makes vet visits or grooming less stressful, and provides an extra layer of safety in new situations. Here, Shadow is learning to associate it with positive things.
Does your dog go crazy when the doorbell rings? Here, Coco the Minipin is being desensitized to the sound. We work on teaching her to remain calm instead of rushing to the door, which creates a more peaceful home for everyone.
Desensitization to the doorbell is a crucial part of creating a calm household. Two-year-old Coco is learning that the sound of the bell doesn't have to trigger a frantic reaction.
Crate training is not a punishment; it's about giving your dog a safe, personal den. Here, Rani the Golden Retriever is learning to go into her crate willingly, which is an essential skill for management, travel, and safety.
One-year-old Rory is working on his crate training. For adult dogs who are not used to a crate, we take it slow and make it a positive place to be, which is essential for travel or vet stays.
Izzy, a 4-year-old Golden Retriever, is getting used to her travel crate as she will be flying soon. Proper crate conditioning is essential to make the travel experience as stress-free as possible for her.
Teaching exit rules is important to prevent a dog from bolting out the door. Rani is learning to wait patiently and look for permission before she is allowed to exit, a simple but critical safety exercise.
When guests come home, a dog should know how to behave calmly. Joey the Labrador is learning to stay on his spot instead of jumping on visitors, making for a much more pleasant experience for everyone.
No breed is born aggressive. It's our job to understand their characteristics and train them properly. Munni the Rottweiler is a gentle baby, proving that with the right guidance, any dog can be a wonderful companion.
If your dog is scared of water, forcing them into a bath can make it worse. A better way to introduce water is in a neutral space, like a terrace, where they can explore it on their own terms and build a positive association.
About Managing Tough Behaviors
Many owners think a muzzle is only for 'aggressive' dogs, but that is a major misconception. It is a vital safety tool for stressful situations like vet visits, grooming sessions, or preventing your dog from picking up harmful trash on the street. When I work with a dog like Shadow, we condition the muzzle as a positive item—never a punishment—to ensure they remain calm, neutral, and safe whenever they encounter new environments.
Beyond Basic Obedience
Training isn't a five-day antibiotic course; it is a routine for a lifetime. When a dog develops tough behaviors—like lunging at other dogs, losing their mind at the doorbell, or refusing to go into a crate—it is usually because they lack clear boundaries or are over-stimulated. My goal is to shift your dog from a state of constant reaction to a state of calm neutrality.
How I Approach Tough Behaviors
- Desensitization: Whether it's the doorbell ringing (like with Coco) or loud household noises, we slowly accustom your dog to these triggers so they stop being the 'alarm system' of your house.
- Crate Conditioning: Many people use the crate as a 'time out' zone, which ruins it. I teach you how to make the crate a personal den, which is essential for travel, vet stays, and helping anxious dogs like Rani or Rory feel secure.
- Neutrality Training: I don't aim for your dog to be best friends with every stranger or pet. I aim for your dog to be able to walk past them, ignore them, and stay calm. This is the difference between a stressed dog and a confident one.
Why It Requires Your Commitment
If you aren't ready to put in the time, toh dog bhi mat lao ghar pe (just don't bring a dog home). I can teach you the techniques for muzzle training, leash mechanics, or impulse control, but you have to practice these daily in your own home in Indiranagar or across Bengaluru. We work on the foundation—building trust and clear communication—so you and your dog can actually enjoy each other's company.
