My Own Bridal Journey: Authentic Wedding Styling
Planning my own wedding taught me more about bridal makeup than any training course ever could. Here is a look at my engagement and muhurtham styling, where I chose looks that felt comfortable, authentic, and completely me.
A candid moment from my own engagement. I did my own makeup and saree draping, choosing a look that felt classic, comfortable, and completely me.
A full-length view of my wedding day look. As a makeup artist, it was important for me to create a style that felt authentic to me, combining tradition with my personal taste.
A quick transition video showing my wedding saree from the day I chose it to my wedding day. Finding the perfect dress is such a special part of the journey.
Pre-pleating your saree is a huge time-saver. This video shows how I ironed and box-folded my own engagement saree the day before, which allowed me to drape it in just 5 minutes on the day of the event.
This was my own wedding reception look. I did my own makeup, creating a soft, romantic style to match my lavender lehenga for a night of celebration.
A throwback photo from one of my own photoshoots. I love playing with different looks, and this helps me experiment with styles that I can then suggest to my clients.
A special photo from my own engagement with my sisters. I did subtle makeup for them to complement their outfits, ensuring we all looked coordinated and beautiful.
This was my own muhurtham look. I chose a classic red and white saree and did my own makeup, focusing on bright eyes and a comfortable, long-lasting base.
A close-up of my bridal makeup. I wanted a look that was defined but not heavy, using pink tones on my eyes and lips to complement my saree.
About My Own Bridal Journey
One of the biggest stressors on my own wedding day was the tight timeline. By pre-pleating and ironing my saree the day before, I was able to drape it in under five minutes on the actual morning of my muhurtham. I use this exact same technique for my brides, saving them that crucial prep time and letting them focus on enjoying the morning rituals rather than struggling with safety pins.
Being a makeup artist who has also been a bride gives me a unique perspective on the entire process. I know that the 'vibe check' is just as important as the products I use. When I styled myself for my engagement and wedding, my priority wasn't just to look good in photos, but to feel like myself when I looked in the mirror.
My Approach to Bridal Styling
Whether you are planning a traditional South Indian muhurtham or a modern evening reception, the goal is always the same: comfort. If you don't usually wear heavy makeup, we don't need to force it.
- The Trial Session: I always recommend a trial, ideally a few months before the wedding. This helps us avoid last-minute stress by finalizing your base—whether that is a sweat-resistant matte finish for long rituals or a dewy HD finish for evening events.
- The 'Real' Details: I handle the technical aspects—like fixing your Poola Jada (fresh floral braids), securing heavy temple jewellery, or ensuring your saree drape stays in place through hours of rituals—so you don't have to worry about your outfit coming loose.
- Customization: From cut-crease eye makeup to simple, natural skin, every choice we make is based on what makes you feel confident. You don't have to choose between looking like a bride and looking like yourself.
If you are feeling overwhelmed by the planning, reach out. Let’s talk about your vision, your outfit, and how we can make your day feel as smooth and personal as mine did.
