A curated collection of my most meaningful captures, from the elusive Sri Lankan Frogmouth to the elegant Paradise Flycatcher. Each image tells a story of patience, fieldcraft, and a deep respect for the avian world.

This is the moment I live for. After hours of patient waiting by a stream in Karnala, this Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, a true jewel of the rainforest, appeared with its catch. Capturing this vibrant bird, especially during its monsoon breeding season, is a testament to the rewards of fieldcraft and patience I teach in my workshops.

The raw drama of nature unfolds over the Goan coast. Here, a powerful Brahminy Kite attempts to snatch a meal from a swift Little Tern. This interaction, a high-speed chase between predator and prey, is the kind of thrilling moment we seek to witness and photograph ethically on my coastal expeditions.

I searched for the Sri Lankan Frogmouth for nearly two years. This master of camouflage, seen here in a Goan forest, is a phantom. Finding it required local knowledge and immense patience, skills I share on my "Chasing Rarities" expeditions. This photo is more than an image; it's the culmination of a long and rewarding quest.

The Asian Paradise Flycatcher is pure elegance in motion. Its long, white tail feathers flow like ribbons as it darts through the forest. Capturing its graceful form is a challenge that combines quick reflexes with an understanding of the bird's behavior, a key focus in my advanced photography workshops.

A perfect strike. This Oriental Darter, emerging from the water with a fish, showcases the incredible speed and precision of avian hunters. Moments like these are what make my wetland expeditions so exciting, offering a chance to capture the cycle of life in action.

The Rufous-bellied Niltava is a splash of sapphire and sun, a truly exotic bird of the Himalayas. Finding this colorful gem in the dense undergrowth and capturing its vibrant plumage is a highlight of my Himalayan photo tours, where we explore the rich biodiversity of the mountains.

This Bar-tailed Godwit is an avian athlete, a record-holder for the longest non-stop flight. Capturing it in mid-flight over the water is a tribute to its incredible journey. On my expeditions, we learn about the amazing migration patterns of such birds and the best techniques to photograph them in flight.

The intense, bright yellow eyes of a Jungle Owlet are mesmerizing. This small predator, active at dawn and dusk, is a favorite subject. My workshops teach how to work with low light and capture the unique character of nocturnal and crepuscular birds like this one.

A moment of pure tranquility. These two egrets, reflected perfectly in the misty morning water, create a serene, almost painterly scene. This image shows that bird photography isn't just about capturing species; it's about capturing mood, atmosphere, and the art of the natural world.

The male Kalij Pheasant, with its glossy plumage and striking red face, is a prize sighting in the Himalayan foothills. This photo was taken during an expedition where we tracked this game bird through its forest habitat, a perfect example of the immersive experiences I offer.

About Featured

Every frame here is the result of hours of patience, waiting for the light to hit just right or for a shy species to emerge from the undergrowth. Whether I am tracking a rare migrant in the Himalayas or capturing the morning ritual of egrets, my approach remains the same: minimal disturbance and deep observation. I do not just teach you how to use your camera settings; I teach you how to read the landscape, anticipate bird behavior, and practice ethical fieldcraft that protects the wildlife we love.

Photography in the wild is less about the gear and more about understanding the bird's rhythm. In this featured gallery, you see a range of environments, from the misty wetlands of the Indian coast to the high-altitude forests of the Himalayan foothills.

My philosophy is simple: the bird comes first. When we are in the field—whether on a workshop in Sattal or a private tracking expedition in Goa—we follow a strict code of conduct. This means no call playback, no crowding nesting sites, and maintaining a distance that allows the bird to go about its life uninterrupted.

What You Will Learn

  • Fieldcraft & Ethics: Moving beyond auto mode starts with understanding your subject. We learn how to blend into the environment and recognize warning signs that a bird is stressed.
  • Technical Mastery: We cover how to handle challenging light, such as canopy shadows in dense forests, and how to freeze wing movement versus creating artistic motion blur.
  • The Story Behind the Shot: A photograph without context is just an image. I focus on the biology, migration patterns, and behavioral traits of every species we encounter.

Whether you are a beginner looking to understand your camera or an enthusiast seeking to track specific rarities, my expeditions are designed to deepen your connection with nature. We do not just hunt for the 'perfect shot'; we learn to be observers of the ecosystem.

I am Parab Amit. I have spent years chasing rare species and documenting the flight patterns of migrants across India. For me, bird photography is not about the collection; it is about sharing the life story of the birds I meet and teaching you how to observe them without leaving a trace.
