About Traditional Motifs: Elephants, Peacocks & Jhumkas
When I draw these motifs, I prioritize the flow of the design over filling every inch of space. Whether it is a small elephant band on your wrist or a detailed peacock feather on your palm, I make sure the lines are clean so the design stays sharp as the stain darkens over the next 48 hours.
I have always believed that traditional motifs carry a story. They are not just drawings, they are symbols that feel right for weddings, festivals, and celebrations in Bengaluru and Mysore.
Why I Love These Motifs
- Majestic Peacocks: These are my go-to for bridal work. A well-drawn peacock feather, filled with fine lines, captures grace and adds a royal feel to the forearm.
- Playful Elephants: I love adding these to designs for baby showers or celebratory events. They are cute, traditional, and instantly make a design feel unique compared to standard floral patterns.
- Jhumka Chains: This is a personal favorite. Drawing dangling jhumkas on the fingers or back of the hand creates a beautiful, jewellery-like effect that looks elegant without needing extra accessories.
My Approach to Traditional Art
I do not use chemical cones. I mix my own 100% organic henna, which means the deep, rich stain is the real deal. When I am working on these traditional Indian mehendi patterns, I focus on the 'Jaal' (net) work to connect the main motifs. This structure ensures that the design looks dense and complete, but never cluttered.
Whether you want a heavy bridal look with full arm coverage or a simpler design for a family gathering, we can decide the placement of these motifs together. I always look at your hand size and your outfit style to ensure the peacock or elephant looks perfectly proportional.
