About Elegant Kurta & Bandi Sets
The fit of these sets is fundamentally different from ready-made options because I use a rigorous measurement process for every client. When you visit my studio, we do not just pick a size; we look at how the fabric, be it raw silk or organza, moves on your frame, ensuring the yoke embroidery stays perfectly aligned rather than pulling or bunching during movement.
My design philosophy for kurta and bandi sets centers on the marriage of traditional Indian aesthetics with the clean lines required for contemporary events. Whether you are dressing for a sangeet, a mehendi, or a festive family gathering, the goal is to provide an outfit that feels like it belongs to you.
The Design Process
When we begin a project, we start by selecting the base fabric. I work primarily with materials like Dupion Art Silk, Viscose Organza, and premium cotton-linen blends. These fabrics offer the right balance of drape and structure, ensuring the garment looks sharp throughout a long event. I focus on elements like mirror work, pintucks, and thread-based ornamentation that provide visual interest without feeling heavy or overdone.
Construction and Fit
Every set is constructed in my Shahpur Jat studio. For bandi jackets, I ensure the internal canvassing is firm enough to maintain the silhouette but flexible enough for comfort. This is where my approach to tailoring differs from mass-produced ethnic wear; by focusing on the tension of the seams and the placement of the buttons, I create a jacket that holds its shape. My kurta sets, whether traditional straight-cut or modern asymmetric, are engineered for a clean visual flow, paired with trousers or dhotis that are hemmed to your specific height.
Practical Considerations
I recommend planning your outfit 3 weeks in advance. This allows time for the initial consultation, fabric selection, and the necessary fitting sessions. If you have a specific color palette in mind or require modifications to the embroidery density to suit a daytime or evening function, we can adjust these details during the first meeting. This is not about choosing an outfit from a rack; it is about creating a garment that respects your personal style while meeting the demands of the occasion.
