Legal Aid and Community Law Advocacy in Delhi
Law is not just about courtroom arguments for me. It is a tool for service. From legal aid camps in Wazirpur to workshops at Daulat Ram College, I am committed to making justice accessible to everyone, not just those who can afford it.
It was an honor to be invited by the Gender Champion Cell of Daulat Ram College to conduct a law workshop. I am passionate about mentoring aspiring lawyers and breaking down the complexities of the legal field for students.
This poster announces a mental health awareness session I organized. The pressures of life and career can be immense, and I believe it is important to foster open conversations about mental wellbeing within our community.
I believe that law is a tool for service. This newspaper clipping from Action India covers a free legal aid camp I helped organize, providing essential legal advice on matters like FIRs, domestic issues, and women's rights to those in need.
Another view of the media coverage for our free legal aid camp in Wazirpur. Making legal advice accessible to everyone is a cause very close to my heart.
A short clip of me receiving an award as a guest of honor at the World Changer School's annual function. It is humbling to be recognized and a joy to witness the talent of young children.
Receiving a memento at the World Changer School event. Engaging with the community, especially with children, is a deeply rewarding experience that reminds me of the importance of building a better future.
Being felicitated at the school's annual function. Moments like these are a great honor and inspire me to continue my work both inside and outside the courtroom.
About this collection
My legal aid work is about making the law accessible, not just theoretical. Whether I am at a camp in Wazirpur explaining FIR rights to residents or conducting a workshop at Daulat Ram College, I focus on giving people practical steps they can take immediately. I believe the law serves the community best when it is understood by the person standing on the street, not just by those inside the courtroom.
As a first-generation lawyer, I understand that the gap between 'the law' and 'the citizen' is often filled with confusion and fear. This is why I step out of the chambers and into the community.
My Approach to Community Advocacy
- Free Legal Aid: Through initiatives like the camps in Wazirpur, I help people navigate basic legal hurdles—understanding how to file an FIR, identifying domestic rights, and managing family disputes—without the intimidation of a formal court setting.
- Mentorship & Education: I am passionate about legal literacy. At workshops in institutions like Daulat Ram College, I don't just lecture; I break down the complexities of the legal profession for students who are standing where I was a few years ago.
- Mental Health Awareness: The legal field is stressful, and so is life for the average person. I collaborate on awareness sessions because I believe that mental well-being is the foundation of a stable life and a sound legal case.
My faith in Shiv Ji keeps me humble throughout this journey. These community engagements are not just 'extra work'—they are the heart of my practice. They remind me why I chose this path: to be a voice for those who feel silenced by the system. If you are part of an organization looking for a speaker on legal rights, or if you simply need clarity on your rights in a specific situation, I am here to help guide you.
Himanshi
I’m Himanshi, a first-generation lawyer who believes that justice shouldn’t be hidden behind complex jargon. When I’m not representing clients in court, I’m likely out in the community, helping people understand their rights and speaking at schools to support the next generation. I fight for what’s fair, both in the courtroom and in society.
