Sacred Spaces: Custom Pooja Room Design and Architecture
We approach the design of pooja rooms with architectural reverence, ensuring every element fosters a tranquil atmosphere for prayer and daily reflection.
We designed this pooja room to be a serene and divine space. It features a backlit arch with intricate jaali work, the sacred 'Om' symbol, and hanging brass bells, all set against a clean white backdrop to create a peaceful sanctuary.
About Sacred Spaces
Designing a sacred space requires a delicate balance between distinct isolation and integration with the home's broader floor plan. We prioritize precision in lighting and materiality—often utilizing CNC-cut jaali screens to cast soft shadows or integrated backlighting to frame idols—ensuring the temple remains a quiet, centered zone even within open-concept layouts.
In the modern home, the pooja room acts as a spiritual anchor. Our approach to these sacred spaces goes beyond simple aesthetics, focusing on how materials, light, and geometry influence your daily rituals.
Designing for Serenity
We utilize pure, high-quality materials such as white marble, natural stone, or warm-toned woods to establish a sense of permanence and purity. For those seeking a modern interpretation, we incorporate minimalist elements like sleek geometric shelves or glass partitions that maintain visual continuity while marking the sacred area as a distinct space.
Lighting and Motif
Lighting is critical in transforming a functional alcove into a sanctuary. We design layered lighting schemes—combining soft, ambient cove lights with targeted spotlights on deities—to create a warm, meditative glow. When it comes to motifs, we favor traditional craftsmanship adapted for contemporary tastes, such as laser-cut jaali patterns or subtle inlay work that honors tradition without overwhelming the home's design language.
Strategic Placement
Placement is a core consideration during our planning phase. Whether we are carving out a dedicated room in a villa or integrating a seamless, cabinet-style temple into an apartment living area, we ensure the orientation respects the architectural flow. By focusing on ergonomic storage for ritual items and the tactile quality of the surfaces, we create spaces that invite stillness and are easy to maintain.
