Building MTB Trails and Community in the Himalayas
Mountain biking is more than just a ride. It is about the grit and passion we pour into creating the trails we call home in the Kumaon region.
This is what true passion looks like. Here, a young cyclist from Nagaland is shown building his own trail, turning his vision into reality. The video ends with a first-person view of him riding the very path he created, which is the spirit we champion at WTH.
About Building the Dream: Trail Craft & Community Passion
Every section of trail we manage in Mukteshwar is shaped by hand, not just by machines. When you ride with us, you are riding on tracks that our team has cleared, bermed, and tested ourselves to ensure they are tough yet rewarding for every skill level.
For us, the sport begins long before the race starts. It starts with a shovel, some pickaxes, and a few days spent in the woods clearing brush and carving lines into the mountainside. We don't just rely on existing paths because we want to create experiences that test your balance, endurance, and technical skills.
Why We Build Our Own Trails
- Technical Progression: By building our own XC loops and downhill sections, we can control the difficulty. We design berms that help you carry speed and drops that teach you to trust your suspension.
- Local Terrain: The Kumaon region offers a mix of loose dirt, rocky outcrops, and dense pine forests. We work with the natural topography to keep the environment intact while creating fun, rideable lines.
- Community Ownership: When a rider helps build a trail, they ride it differently. We host sessions where our community joins us to clear paths, because there is no better way to understand the sport than to shape the ground beneath your tires.
Whether you are a local enthusiast or visiting from a metro city, our trails are designed to challenge you. We handle the maintenance so you can focus on the ride, but we always encourage riders to respect the work that goes into these paths by riding clean and leaving no trace.
