Capturing the grace of traditional silhouettes through a modern, narrative-driven lens.

This shot captures the beautiful interaction between two models, showcasing different sarees from the same collection. The warm lighting and joyful expressions create an image that feels both elegant and authentic, perfect for a brand lookbook.

A full-length portrait that celebrates the rich color and texture of a traditional red Banarasi saree. The relaxed, seated pose and genuine smile give the image a natural and joyful feel, highlighting the beauty of the garment in a relatable way.

Here, I focused on the complementary colors and textures of two distinct sarees. The gentle interaction between the models adds a soft, narrative quality, demonstrating how different pieces in a collection can be styled together.

This portrait highlights the delicate embroidery on a modern organza saree. By having the model hold a bouquet of white roses, I added a touch of romance and softness that complements the intricate floral details on the garment.

I used a simple prop, a sealed letter, to add a layer of story and intrigue to this portrait. The focus is on the rich fabric of the olive green saree and the model's contemplative mood, creating a timeless, cinematic feel.

This portrait captures a moment of quiet reflection, blending traditional elegance with a contemporary mood. The intricate details of the black and gold saree are highlighted by soft, directional lighting, creating an image that is both artistic and deeply personal.

A photograph should tell a story. In this frame, I directed the models to create a sense of intimacy and shared confidence, letting the luxurious textures of their sarees and the warm studio light build a rich, narrative-driven fashion portrait.

About this collection

For this saree campaign, I focused on textures. Bringing out the sheen of a Banarasi weave or the transparency of organza requires specific light placement that does not wash out the color. I chose warm studio lighting and deliberate props like hand-sealed letters and fresh roses to build a narrative around the garments rather than just shooting the fabric.

Good fashion photography for ethnic wear is about more than just a model in a nice saree. It is about the draping, the jewelry interaction, and the mood you create. When we shot the Pallavi Sethi collection, we did not just stand the models up and click. We created vignettes. Using a vintage chair and subtle smoke effects, we set a scene that suggests luxury and heritage.

The technical aspect involves controlling studio light to capture the gold thread, or zari, in silk sarees without harsh glare. My approach to ethnic fashion photography prioritizes:

  • Lighting: We use soft, directional lighting to highlight fabric texture and embroidery detail.
  • Styling: I consult on the drapes and accessory pairing to ensure the final image looks intentional and editorial.
  • Storytelling: Every pose is directed to reveal the personality of the garment.

Whether you are a designer needing a catalog for your latest collection or an individual wanting a high-end editorial look, my studio in Battarahalli, Bengaluru is set up for exactly this. We move away from flat, lifeless catalog shots to create images that feel like a spread in a fashion magazine. If you have a specific vision for your brand’s aesthetic, let us talk about how to bring that to life.
