About Music Video: "NEW DAY" - Sailor Ji
I didn't want to just film a rapper in a car. For 'NEW DAY', the challenge was matching the lighting in our studio setup to the natural, moody outdoor Jeep sequences. We color-graded every frame to ensure the transition felt seamless, keeping the viewer locked into Sailor Ji's performance rather than distracted by technical jumps.
My Approach to Music Video Direction
When I shifted from my corporate life at Google to full-time filmmaking, I decided that every music video I touch has to be more than just a video. It has to be Cinema. For the 'NEW DAY' shoot, this meant avoiding the standard 'performance in a warehouse' look. We used a mix of natural light for the outdoor sequences and high-contrast, moody LED setups in the studio to give the video texture.
The Creative Process
Collaboration starts before we ever pick up a camera. With Sailor Ji, we sat down to break down the lyrics. Hip-hop needs a certain rhythm, and if the editing doesn't match the beat, the impact is lost. We shot the performance scenes to feel intimate, using close-ups to capture the intensity of the track, while the Jeep sequences added that grit and movement. My crew handles the technical heavy lifting—gaffers, light techs, and sound engineers—so I can focus on guiding the artist’s performance and the narrative.
Why This Works
- Pre-production Planning: We don't wing it on shoot day. We work with mood boards, shot lists, and location scouting so that when the camera rolls, we are capturing, not guessing.
- Color Grading: This is where the mood is locked in. For this video, we leaned into a palette that felt grounded but sharp, ensuring the studio footage and outdoor footage lived in the same visual world.
- Studio & Location: Based in Delhi, I use my studio for controlled, high-end looks, but I am comfortable shooting anywhere across India if the story needs a specific location.
Whether you are a solo artist needing a performance video or a band looking for a narrative-driven production, I bring the same level of discipline to every project. My goal is to help you build a visual brand that lasts.
