The Art of Light and Shadow: Cinematic Photography & Films
I believe the most compelling stories live in the interplay of light and dark. This collection captures the mood, atmosphere, and raw emotion that define my cinematic approach.
'The Morning After', a short black and white film that tells a story through atmosphere and light. This piece is a pure exploration of mood, capturing a feeling of quiet contemplation.
An intimate portrait captured in warm, low light. The trust between the artist and subject allows for a vision that is larger than life, resulting in a raw and beautiful image.
An impromptu film of a classical dancer performing in an old room. We used only the available natural light to capture the grace of her movement, creating a surreal and timeless piece.
A spontaneous black and white video portrait of a model in a simple swimsuit. The clean setup and stark lighting focus entirely on her form and powerful presence.
A preview of an upcoming art series, shot in black and white. This piece explores form and expression through dramatic makeup and bold, sculptural lighting, creating a high-contrast, artistic visual.
A simple, elegant black and white video portrait. The soft focus and gentle movements create a dreamy, intimate feel, showcasing the beauty of subtlety in filmmaking.
A beauty-focused video showcasing a model's stunning dusky skin tone. The lighting is carefully crafted to highlight her features and the texture of her makeup, creating a warm and glowing effect.
About this collection
I don’t rely on standard lighting presets. For these frames, I prioritize dramatic, high-contrast setups that emphasize form and mood over everything else. Whether it is a black and white portrait or a short film, the process is always about carving out the subject from the background to create a timeless, cinematic aesthetic.
My Approach to Visual Storytelling
Photography and filmmaking are not just about the technical specs of a camera; they are about capturing the dance between light and shadow. When I approach a project—whether it is a fashion editorial or a personal art series—I look for the quiet moments that tell a larger story.
The Process
Most of the work you see here was shot in my studio in Tardeo, Mumbai, or at hand-picked locations that add texture to the narrative. I often use continuous, dramatic lighting to replicate natural shifts in atmosphere, which allows me to work closely with the talent and react to their movements in real-time.
- Collaboration: A successful shoot is a team effort. I work with a talented crew of stylists, makeup artists, and assistants who understand that we are not just making images; we are building a world.
- Minimalism: I prefer to strip away the noise. By focusing on the subject, the texture of their skin, and the mood of the room, we create visuals that feel honest rather than over-produced.
- Post-Production: My color grading is a signature part of my process. I lean into rich blacks, warm skin tones, and subtle contrasts to ensure every asset has a consistent, cinematic feel.
If you are looking to create a campaign or a personal project that prioritizes mood, character, and artistic vision over a standard commercial look, I would love to hear what you have in mind.

I’m Vikram. For me, photography isn't about the camera; it's about the connection between the subject and the lens. Whether we're in my Tardeo studio or on location, I love collaborating to capture that raw, authentic magic that happens when you let the light tell the story.
