About A Taste of Tradition: Indian Regional Feasts
When we shoot regional feasts, we don't just set the table, we recreate a memory. Whether it is sourcing traditional brassware for an Awadhi spread or using a banana leaf to ground a Goan fish curry, we focus on the props and textures that tell the story of the origin, not just the recipe.
Authentic food photography is not just about good lighting, it is about respecting the heritage of the dish. When we approach a shoot for a regional menu, our process begins with the history of the meal. For a Maharashtrian thali, we do not look for modern, minimalist props. We hunt for authentic copper and brass elements that mirror what you would find in a home kitchen. It is about texture: the roughness of a handcrafted bhakri, the sheen on a banana leaf, or the rich glaze of a slow-cooked curry.
We collaborate closely with chefs and restaurant owners to ensure the plating is not just visually appealing but culturally accurate. We have styled everything from grand Awadhi dastarkhwans to rustic, home-style village feasts. We focus on the 'why' behind the visual, whether it is the warmth of a home, the nostalgia of a grandmother’s recipe, or the vibrancy of a festive spread.
What to expect when shooting with us:
- Prop Sourcing: We do not use generic store-bought plates. We source traditional crockery that aligns with the specific region we are showcasing.
- Lighting and Mood: We do not default to bright, flat light. If the dish demands a moody, atmospheric vibe to reflect its royal roots or village origin, we manipulate light and shadow to create that depth.
- Storytelling: Whether it is a quick-fire video of a tadka or a detailed still of a coastal curry, we frame it to bring the viewer into the kitchen.
If your restaurant or brand is looking to showcase the soul of its menu, we are here to help you build that visual narrative.
The Saucy Xplorer Studios
We are The Saucy Xplorer Studios, and for us, a plate of food is a story waiting to be told. We have spent years trekking to village kitchens and sitting with chefs to learn the 'why' behind every spice, so we can capture more than just a photo—we capture the feeling of home.
