About The Wedding Lookbook: Outfit & Style Inspiration
When you are picking an outfit for your Sangeet, prioritize mobility over heavy embellishments. I always tell my clients that if you cannot lift your arms or take a big step without your lehenga weighing you down, you will not enjoy your performance. Choose fabrics that flow, and always do a test twirl. If you feel confident moving, you will dance better.
Whether you are planning a high-energy Sangeet dance or a surprise bridal solo, your outfit is essentially your dance partner. I have seen too many performers struggle with heavy embroidery that pins their arms down or skirts that are too tight for a proper thumka.
Look for materials like georgette, chiffon, or lighter silks that move with you. If you are set on a traditional lehenga, consider a lighter skirt paired with a heavily worked blouse or dupatta to get that dramatic look without the weight. My own mom's silk saree from 1985 is a favorite of mine because it is timeless and incredibly easy to move in for a full night of dancing.
Indo-western co-ord sets are also fantastic for a modern Sangeet vibe. They allow for a great range of motion and look stylish for photos and videos. If you are doing a bridal entry, remember you will likely be walking and dancing, so test your footwear with your outfit length to avoid tripping.
I love helping my clients find that balance between looking like a showstopper and feeling like themselves. If you have a specific outfit in mind and need to know if it will survive a Bollywood fusion routine, feel free to send me a photo. We can figure out how to style it so you can hit every beat with confidence.
