Architecture is a dialogue between raw materials and light. This collection examines how the combination of exposed brick, structural steel, and organic bamboo creates spaces that are both climate-responsive and tactile.

The Artist Residency at Farm8, where a bamboo exoskeleton is woven onto a lightweight steel frame. The structure sits beside a lily pond, creating a conversation between the natural landscape and the man-made form, which is built from sustainable, organic materials.

A work-in-progress view of the bamboo screen facade at the Artist Residency. This shot shows the modular nature of the design, with individual steel-framed panels being clad in hand-woven bamboo, creating a textured and breathable building skin.

The cluster of modules at the Artist Residency taking shape. The design consists of several small, interconnected pavilions rather than a single large building, which helps break down the scale and allows the landscape to weave through the spaces.

A detail shot during the construction of the Artist Residency. This image highlights the simple, honest junction of a steel roof plane resting on an exposed fire brick wall, showcasing the beauty in the clear expression of structural elements.

The interior staircase at the Artist Residency. The soft texture of the natural lime plaster on the walls provides a warm, tactile contrast to the sharp, industrial lines of the external steel structure, creating a balanced interior environment.

The steel skeleton of the Artist Residency during early construction. This view reveals the logic of the design, with modular frames creating a series of inside-out spaces and corridors that are defined by their relationship to the trees and the ground.

A work-in-progress shot of a steel roof structure being fabricated on a terrace. The image captures the raw energy of construction and the skeletal beauty of the steel frame before it is completed, showing the geometry that underpins the final form.

Another view of a steel roof structure under construction. The heavy I-beams create a powerful rhythm against the sky, demonstrating the potential of steel to create lightweight, expansive structures that can shelter outdoor spaces.

A detail of a lightweight roof structure. The design combines a steel frame with translucent panels and fabric, which fills the interior spaces with a soft, diffused glow of natural sunlight, reducing the need for artificial lighting.

About Material & Form: Studies in Brick, Steel, and Bamboo

We reject the practice of concealing structural elements. By pairing exposed fire brick with modular steel frames and bamboo screens, we allow the building's anatomy to dictate its character. This modularity is not merely an aesthetic choice, but a method to create transitional zones—verandahs and courtyards—that serve as climatic buffers, allowing the landscape to permeate the interior volume.
