Tired of just scrolling and wanting to actually do something good? Karmasthan in BTM Layout is our home base for making change, where anyone can drop in to volunteer, create, or just connect. Come find your tribe.

Our weekly schedule at Karmasthan is always packed! From book readings and craft sessions to workshops on making eco-friendly products, there's always something happening at our volunteering hub.

An intimate musical gathering to inaugurate Karmasthan. We opened our doors with an evening of art and connection for our core team, setting the tone for this special space.

The big announcement! Karmasthan is open for volunteering. This space is the result of a long-held dream to have a dedicated hub for our community to gather, create, and serve.

Our first call for volunteers to set up the Karmasthan space. The community came together to paint, clean, and arrange everything, truly making it our own from day one.

The name changed, but the heart is still 100% Smileys. This graphic explains our evolution to Karmasthan, a name that reflects our commitment to action and service.

About Karmasthan: India's First Volunteering Hub

You don't need fancy skills or a formal certification to walk through our doors in BTM Layout. Whether you want to help set up a weekend workshop, record an audiobook, or just hang out with our community, there's always a spot for you here. Just bring your energy and an open mind.

Karmasthan isn't just a building; it is the physical space where our 'Smileys' philosophy lives. Since 2011, we have grown from a small group of friends painting on Sundays to a movement supporting over 25 special schools across Bengaluru. Now, our BTM Layout hub is where all that effort, dance, and art finally has a permanent home.

Why Karmasthan?

We built this as a dedicated social space for inclusion. It is India's first hub designed purely for volunteering, open to anyone who wants to contribute. If you are looking for meaningful weekend volunteering in Bangalore, this is where you start.

What happens at the hub?

Our schedule is always changing, but the vibe remains the same. You might find us:

  • Running Indian Sign Language workshops at Cubbon Park or in-house.
  • Hosting 'Craft for a Cause' sessions where we make tactile storybooks for visually impaired students.
  • Organizing open mic nights and community art platforms like 'Voices In The Spotlight'.
  • Coordinating our buddy project and weekend drives to special schools.

Most of our activities are free, and we focus on connection over credentials. We keep our logistics simple—floor seating, DIY materials, and a whole lot of community energy. Whether you are a student, a working professional, or just someone looking to meet new people, you belong here.

We don't do formal applications or long waiting lists. We do meetups, workshops, and real, on-the-ground action. If you've been searching for a community that values presence over performance, come say hi.

We started as a bunch of friends in 2011 just wanting to spread smiles, and that same spirit drives Karmasthan today. We are a community, not an organization, and we believe anyone can make a difference if they show up. Come by, pull up a chair, and let's get things moving together.
