Hair Transplant Questions Answered
Thinking about a hair transplant but have doubts? I break down the science of hair restoration to help you make an informed choice.
For advanced pattern baldness, a hair transplant is the only permanent solution. In this video, I introduce my educational series designed to cover all the facts and myths about the procedure.
"Am I a good candidate for a hair transplant?" I explain the key factors we evaluate, including the type and extent of your hair loss and the health of your donor area.
FUE vs FUT: what is the difference? I break down the two main types of hair transplant techniques, explaining the pros and cons of each to help you understand why FUE is the preferred method for most.
Full shave or partial shave? I discuss why a full shave is usually recommended for the best FUE results, as it allows for more even graft extraction and a more natural outcome.
"Is a hair transplant permanent?" The short answer is yes, but there's an important detail. I explain how transplanted hair lasts a lifetime, but why ongoing care is crucial to maintain your non-transplanted hair.
A common fear is that a transplant will look unnatural. I explain how the key to an undetectable result lies in the artistic details: hairline design, graft placement, and creating the right density for your face.
An unnatural hairline is a valid concern. I explain how we prevent this by using a specific technique of placing single follicles in the front and denser grafts behind, mimicking natural hair growth patterns.
About this collection
The biggest fear many patients have is that their transplant will look artificial or patchy. I solve this by focusing on artistic placement, where I manually plant single hair follicles at the very front and denser grafts behind them. This mimics your natural hair growth pattern, making the result virtually undetectable once healed.
Is a hair transplant permanent?
Yes, the hair I transplant is taken from the permanent donor zone at the back and sides of your scalp, which is genetically resistant to balding. This hair will typically grow for life. However, it is important to remember that your non-transplanted hair can still thin over time due to hormonal changes, which is why I often suggest ongoing maintenance like Minoxidil to protect your overall density.
How does the FUE process feel?
We perform the procedure under local anesthesia, which is similar to the numbing used for dental work. You should feel minimal discomfort. The surgery takes about 4 to 8 hours, and you can go home the same day. Most patients are back to their regular routine within a week.
Will my donor area look thin?
This is a common concern, but we only extract a small percentage of hair follicles, usually around 10 to 15 percent, depending on your existing density. We space these extractions out so the donor area remains thick and looks completely natural.
When will I see results?
Results take time. You can expect to see early sprouts in 2 to 3 months, with fuller, thicker hair visible after 6 months. Consistency with follow-up care and any prescribed medication is key to ensuring those results last and look their best.
