About Molds for Unique Candle Shapes
Getting your candle out of the mold without breaking it is the biggest hurdle for beginners. I always recommend using high-quality silicone molds because they are flexible and durable, which makes demolding smooth. Just make sure you pair these molds with a hard-set wax like my SKC SOY-888 to ensure the edges stay sharp and the shape holds perfectly once it cools.
Choosing the right mold is where your candle making goes from hobbyist to professional level. I stock silicone molds because they offer the best detail and are easiest to handle. Whether you are aiming for the viral bubble candle look or elegant pillar candles, the silicone material allows for detailed texture reproduction and, more importantly, easy release.
Why the wax matters
You cannot use a soft jar wax in these molds. If you do, the candle will lose its shape the moment you try to demold it. That is why I specifically created my SKC SOY-888 pillar wax. It has a higher melting point and a harder finish, which is essential for detailed silicone molds.
Pro tips for better candles
- Prep the mold: Ensure it is clean and dry before pouring. Any dust will show up on the final candle.
- Pouring temp: Pour your wax slightly cooler to reduce the chance of sinkholes in the center.
- Patience: Let it cure fully. If you rush the demolding process, you risk damaging the intricate edges of the design.
If you are running a business and need consistent shapes, these molds are your best investment. They are reusable and hold up well over time. If you have a specific design in mind or need a bulk set for a workshop, send me a message. I am always happy to help you pick the right combination of mold, wax, and wick to make your business grow.
