Indoor-Outdoor Living Design Concepts
We believe homes should breathe. Our designs blur the boundary between your interiors and the landscape, using large glass apertures and seamless flooring to bring the outside into your everyday living space.
The main living area of this Mysore residence is defined by its direct connection to the rooftop pool. The open-plan layout, high ceilings with wooden beams, and large glass doors make the space feel expansive and full of light.
The rooftop pool is framed by tropical plants and palm trees, creating a private resort-like feel. The design ensures that even in a city, you can have a tranquil space to relax and unwind.
Every detail of the terrace is considered, from the wooden decking that is comfortable underfoot to the lush hedge that provides privacy. This space is designed for both relaxation and entertaining.
This view from inside the home looking out to the pool deck shows how the design encourages an indoor-outdoor lifestyle. The sliding glass doors can be opened completely to merge the two spaces.
We incorporate natural elements throughout our interiors. A large fiddle-leaf fig plant stands against a white marble wall near the home's elevator and staircase, adding a touch of green and life to the elegant space.
About Indoor-Outdoor Living
If you are planning a rooftop pool or an integrated terrace deck, we prioritize the structural reality first. We calculate load-bearing capacities and waterproofing requirements long before we sketch the pool edges, ensuring that the transition from your living room to your outdoor space is both beautiful and practically sound.
Our approach to indoor-outdoor living is rooted in the concept of tropical modernism. We look at how light and air move through a building to reduce the physical barrier between a room and the garden. In our residential projects, such as the residence in Mysore showcased here, this means using large-format glass doors that disappear into pockets, allowing the living area to expand directly onto the terrace.
The Process of Integration
When we integrate water bodies or pool decks into a residential plan, the design phase involves three critical steps:
- Structural Load Analysis: Rooftop pools add significant weight. We coordinate with structural consultants early to ensure the slab can handle the water volume and the tiling finish.
- Material Selection: For outdoor areas exposed to the elements, we avoid standard indoor tiles. We prefer textured, slip-resistant materials that can handle heat and monsoon rain while maintaining a continuous visual language with your internal marble or wooden flooring.
- Landscape Planning: The view from inside is just as important as the space itself. We position planters and screens to provide privacy from neighbors while framing the sky and distant views, making the outdoors feel like a private extension of your home.
Whether you have a compact balcony or a large rooftop, the goal is the same. We want to remove the feeling of being boxed in. We use ambient lighting to extend the usability of these outdoor spaces into the evening, turning a terrace or a patio into a functional room rather than just a decorative feature.
